Netflix recently opened an LA-based facility, Vine Studios, to house its animation series studio. This space offers collaborative review spaces, premium offline edit bays, a scratch room, and a screening room. We are building an engineering and technical support team to facilitate these spaces for a wide variety of corporate and production use cases.

This position sits at the intersection of Production Technology and Post Production Services. Not only will you lead the engineering team at Vine Studios, you will provide technical support and guidance to our in-house productions through every phase of production. Your team will consist of two highly skilled teammates that will provide expertise and support to our creative artists, ensuring our in-house facilities are fully optimized and continue to evolve to meet the creative demands of our content creators. This role will require strong working partnerships with our other key engineering teams across the Studio and Product organizations to ensure optimum support to our productions working in the Animation Studio, as well as the development and evolution of our internal tools, platforms, and technology initiatives. The ideal candidate will also have experience collaborating with software developers and manufacturers, providing feedback and knowledge of real-world Animation Production challenges.

Responsibilities:

* Responsible for the smooth running of the technical infrastructure and operations of specialty spaces and Editorial at Vine Studios, home of Netflix Series Animation.

* Manage a support team to provide remote and on-site support of our specialty spaces, ensuring functionality, best practices, and color consistency.

* Works directly with Netflix Production Management and Post Management to determine and advise technical solutions for our productions.

* Partner with Media Systems and Production Engineering teams to refine and evolve the engineering and technology support structure, both for on-premise and off-premise requirements.

* Provide real-world perspective, setting the context, parameters, and business requirements, for our Studio and Product Team partners to provide Tier 2 & 3 levels of support.

* Partner with other engineering stakeholder teams to develop and evolve tools, platforms, and workflows that meet the challenges and demands of the business in the future state.

* Partner with the in-house VFX Manager to implement color workflow guidance to our productions and creative artists working remotely and at Vine Studios.

* Support the growing Previs infrastructure and artist population to ensure software needs are evaluated and solutions discussed with Production stakeholders.

* Ensure the network at Vine Studios is always optimized to meet business requirements by closely partnering with our Tier 2 internal engineering teams to clearly define and refine responsibilities.

* Provide on-site preventative maintenance and calibration to technical infrastructure to ensure optimum performance.

* Capture and analyze support requests to recognize trends over time.

* Create a cross-training program for your team to allow them to support each other during periods of heavy work and vacations.

Qualifications:

* 10+ years of experience in production or post engineering and/or production technology at a Post Production Facility.

* Deep knowledge and experience of digital production and post-production workflows encompassing Non-Linear editing, Color Science, VFX, and Audio mastering.

* Strong relationships and hands-on knowledge of key Industry Manufacturers, their tools, and software, such as Avid, Adobe Premiere, and SyncSketch.

* Understanding of networking (switched IP protocols, DNS, ports), network storage, and workstation architectures and how they relate to and optimize production and post-production workflows and media management.

* Experience across Windows, Mac, Linux operating systems and workstation hardware, workstation hardware (GPU's, memory, etc.) and the Google Tool Suite.

* Ability to respectfully engage with creative executives and content creators.

* Ability to manage and operate in ambiguous situations and think on your feet to solve challenges and problems.

* Strong communication skills with proven ability to socialize, explain and pitch technology, tools, and workflows clearly, verbally, and in written form.

* Proven track record of innovation, initiative, ideation, and implementation.

* Experience with instituting quality management frameworks and process improvement.

* Experience leading and collaborating with diverse teams across multiple functions, skills, and locations.

* Strong organizational skills with a proactive mentality, positive orientation, and outlook.

* Knowledge of the technical and artistic aspects of animation or VFX as well as understanding of 2D and CG pipelines.

* Experience in leading, mentoring, and training direct reports and partners.

* Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize assignments and initiatives.

* Team player who thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting.

* Ability to handle a heavy volume of work, supervising several projects in various points of production (from development through delivery).

Our compensation structure consists solely of an annual salary; we do not have bonuses. You choose each year how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options. To determine your personal top of market compensation, we rely on market indicators and consider your specific job family, background, skills, and experience to determine your compensation in the market range. The range for this role is $160,000 - $360,000.
