DESCRIPTION

Atlantic Theater Company, the award-winning Off-Broadway theater and NAST-accredited acting school founded in 1985 by David Mamet and William H. Macy, is seeking a dynamic Teaching Artist with expertise in writing and directing to join our in-school residency program, Staging Success, working with junior high school students at our partner school in Park Slope, Brooklyn. This role is ideal for a creative professional with a strong background in mentoring, script development, and performance direction who is passionate about working with diverse student populations.

Responsibilities:

  1. Lead thematic discussions related to a text the students are studying and conducting writing workshops.
  2. Actively participate in student writing workshops, modeling the writing process and sharing personal reflections to inspire students.
  3. Provide constructive feedback on student writing to help them refine their work.
  4. Participate as an assistant TA in acting workshops to assist and support the lead Teaching Artist.
  5. Adapt and refine scripts for the program’s final performance.
  6. Collaborate with the team to create the initial draft of the script, incorporating feedback to finalize it for the project.
  7. Direct scene work for the final performances.
  8. Develop and implement a structured rehearsal process, ensuring all scenes and student performers are effectively prepared.
  9. Participate in team lesson planning, aligning projects with program objectives and providing creative input.

Qualifications:

  1. Proven experience in writing, directing, and working with student populations.
  2. Strong ability to lead workshops, mentor students, and model creative techniques.
  3. Demonstrated expertise in script development, directing, and collaboration with technical teams.
  4. Excellent organizational, communication, and team collaboration skills.
  5. Experience working in educational settings or with diverse youth populations is a plus.
  6. Availability to attend meetings and program activities during school hours.
