Duties

Assigns work, daily tasks and equipment to section engineering staff; trains, supervises, inspects the work of and coaches Broadcast Engineers; reviews staff performance and completes performance appraisals. Troubleshoots and provides engineering support for Senate Recording Studio, the Senate Chamber, hearing rooms and special events involving audio, video and control systems. Maintains inventory of equipment and supplies; recommends purchase of new broadcast equipment, systems and supplies. Assists Senate Recording Studio management and procurement teams with major broadcast system procurements including evaluating contractors project proposals. Writes, edits and/or maintains standard operating procedures and manuals. Implements policies and procedures pertaining to the operations and maintenance of the Recording Studio. Participates in Continuity of Operations (COOP) Planning, including exercises, drills and training. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Other Duties/ Responsibilities
  • Acts as the Broadcast Engineering Manager in the absence of the Engineering Manager.
Required Work Experience
  • 5 to 8 years of technical experience in broadcast or audio/visual system maintenance and repair.
Required Special Skills/ Knowledge
  • Operational and maintenance characteristics of television and audio/video recording equipment.
  • Training and experience in fiber optic installation, termination and measurement.
  • Familiarity with networking protocols, cybersecurity practices, cloud technologies, and server administration.
  • Experience leading technical teams, delegating tasks, and managing schedules.
  • Effective communication skills for conveying technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and coordinating across departments.

Working Conditions
  • Moderate (carrying of items less than 50 pounds)
  • Work requires frequent physical effort walking, bending, crawling, standing for long durations.
  • Work requires the employee to be around high-voltage equipment or hot lights.
  • Working on ladders, scaffolding, or stages.
  • Working in confined spaces (bending and crawling).
  • Work exposes the employee to noise and cold temperatures from the computer equipment.
  • Since this position requires onsite presence in support of the U.S. Senate when in session, this position requires the
    employee to be available and prepared to work during government shutdowns, in inclement weather, on holidays,
    and during late night, overnight, and weekend sessions. In the context of government furloughs, this position is considered excepted.
Education

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, or related field.
