What You'll Do:
• Inspire & Lead: Strategically guide and manage our talented news team, fostering an environment of creativity and collaboration. Act as a mentor and coach, helping journalists develop their skills and grow in their careers.
• Content Oversight: Oversee the production of compelling on-air and digital news content that distinguishes us in the market.
• Innovate for OTT: Spearhead the creation of original, unique content for our OTT and digital platforms, ensuring we remain at the forefront of local news.
• Drive Daily News: Make real-time editorial decisions and manage breaking news coverage, ensuring our community stays informed and engaged.
• Engage with Community: Cultivate relationships with local figures and stakeholders to enhance our news offerings and community presence.
• Archive & Special Projects: Leverage our archives and manage special coverage plans to create distinctive content that resonates with viewers.
• Coaching & Development: Provide ongoing training and support to team members on best practices in storytelling, multimedia journalism, and digital engagement strategies. Foster a culture of continuous learning and improvement within the newsroom.
Who You Are:
• You hold a bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field, with 3+ years of experience in breaking news content, including leadership roles.
• Your journalistic judgment is strong, emphasizing accuracy, fairness, and unique local stories that engage the community.
• You are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, fostering an inclusive workplace culture.
• You have a deep understanding of SEO best practices and can analyze audience data to identify trends (experience with Google Analytics is a plus!).
• You thrive under pressure and are adept at handling live news situations with poise.
• You have strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills, with a keen eye for detail in writing.
• Familiarity with the San Angelo and Abilene areas is a bonus.
