Job Title: Social Studies Content Writer Wage/Hour Status: Exempt

Reports to: Principal Pay Grade: Teacher Payscale (208 Days)

Dept./School: iUniversity Prep Virtual Academy

POSITION GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Content Writer is responsible for writing course high-level social studies content, assessments, and designing the course in the learning management system used by the school for specific iUniversity Prep courses. This position collaborates with other development team members, lead writer and campus leadership to infuse all requirements and norms of an iUniversity Prep course. The Content Writer is responsible for validating the accuracy of the content and assessments, and providing necessary revisions to ensure the highest quality courses for iUniversity Prep.

ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
  • Write content and assessments that exceeds state, district and/or College Board standards using iUniversity Prep curriculum practices
  • Develop resources within the written content that support overall engagement, such as graphics and videos
  • Design the written course in the learning management system.
  • Use knowledge of target audience to write content that is engaging for students in a virtual environment
  • Review and provide quality assurance testing to validate the accuracy of content and/or assessments
  • Provide necessary revisions for course content and assessments
  • Work with the development team members to incorporate innovative technologies into curriculum development
  • Assist with reviewing content to determine necessary revisions for content and assessments
  • Write documents associated with course development
  • Infuse 21st century technology and skills in course content
  • Contribute to the revision of externally produced content and resources
  • Evaluate resources for applicability to projects
  • Meet professional obligations through efficient work habits such as, meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating resources and meetings in an effective and timely manner, and demonstrate respect for others
  • All work responsibilities are subject to having performance goals and/or targets established
  • Collaborate with teaching staff on final content.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Licensure/Certification:
  • Master's degree in Education or related area; or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
  • Valid Texas Professional Teaching Certificate
    • Social Studies grades 5-12
    • Other Electives such as:
      • Computer Science 8-12
      • Business & Finance 6-12
      • Marketing 6-12
      • ASL EC-12
      • French EC-12
      • German EC-12
      • Spanish EC-12
      • Physical Education EC-12
      • Special Education EC-12
      • Health EC-12
      • Communication Applications EC-12
      • Technology Applications EC-12
      • Other Core Subject Area

Experience:
  • Two years' curriculum writing and/or design experience in the content area
  • Three years' teaching experience, preferred
  • Experience with educational technology, teaching strategies and/or online instructional design

Knowledge, abilities and skills:
  • Knowledge of subject matter, pedagogy, and curriculum design
  • Working knowledge of online instructional design theories
  • Knowledge of grammar and command of the English language
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and motivation skills
  • Strong collaboration skills as it relates to product development
  • Comprehensive content knowledge in specific subject area

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
  • Location: Remote/Campus-based
  • Frequency of travel: Occasional travel is required for meetings, trainings, STAAR testing sites and conferences; location may vary and may require overnight stays
  • Maintain control in stressful and high volume workload timelines
  • Light physical activities and efforts required working in an office environment
