Job Description
Purpose:
Assess therapeutic recreational needs of patients, plan and implement the therapeutic recreation program.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
• Conducts therapeutic recreational activities.
• Assesses patients' performance and needs in a group setting.
• Participates in conferences and team meetings.
• Engages in quality assessment and improvement initiatives.
• Coordinates efforts to ensure effective patient care.
• Documents observations, interactions, and patients' progress in the appropriate records.
• Evaluates the department's supply needs.
• Manages the purchasing, distribution, storage, and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
• Supervises staff, selected volunteers, and interns in the psychiatric inpatient program.
• Prepares and maintains records, progress reports, and statistical information.
• Participates in departmental and facility-wide quality assurance/performance improvement activities.
• Knowledgeable about hospital, departmental, and unit policies and procedures.
• Ensures tasks and responsibilities are executed in accordance with these guidelines.
• Demonstrates courtesy and professionalism when interacting with colleagues, patients, and the public.
Minimum Qualifications
Assignment Level II
1. A valid License issued by the New York State Education Department to practice as a Creative Arts Therapist; and
2. Two years of full-time, paid, professional experience in creative arts therapy.
Assignment Level III
In addition to meeting the requirements for Assignment Levels II, Assignment Level III
requires:
1. One additional year of experience.
