Eaton's IS AER MSD division is currently seeking a Lead Design Drafter. This position is a hybrid work opportunity based at our Orchard Park, NY facility.

Eaton Mission Systems specializes in the manufacturing of life saving devices, pneumatic systems, military and space applications.

The Lead Design Drafter will participate in Integrated Product Team (IPT) efforts to design and develop new Eaton Products as well as deploy existing product variants. Products include but are not limited to Life Support Oxygen and Nitrogen Systems, On-Board Oxygen and On-Board Inert Gas Generating Systems, Oxygen Regulators, Portable Oxygen Systems, Cryogenic Coolers, Controllers, Diving Apparatuses, Releases & Restraints, Test Equipment.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $52499.97 - $76999.96 a year.

What you'll do:

The Lead Design Drafter will report into the Design Services Engineering Manager and work in conjunction with the Product Design team Manager, Design Engineers, and Designers, in revision of Models, & Data. The position will be expected to become proficient in SolidWorks and Enovia. These base tools are used in support of documentation packages, model-based manufacturing, additive manufacturing, assistance to existing product lines, bids & proposals. Additional duties may include continuous improvement tasks as well.
  • Drive process improvements to quality and efficiency in the design process.
  • Participate and assist senior designer(s) and lead engineers with preparation of design review packages (e.g., SRR, PDR, CDR, FDR, etc.) for internal/external customers and management.
  • Participate and assist in reviewing legacy drawings and initiate transition to product lifecycle management tool (PLM).
  • Supports Manufacturing and Production with Material Review Board issues.
  • Support root cause investigations and corrective actions, including with external vendors.
  • Participate and assist peer and senior engineers, the engineering test lab and production assembly personnel to verify and validate the designs to the various requirements, including through qualification and development testing.
  • Generate layouts, drawings, and sketches for fabrication of Engineering Development, prototypes, and components for testing.
  • Import and export 3D models that are not native to SolidWorks into existing designs as well as provide customers with Eaton's 3D models that are compatible with other CAD software systems.
  • Utilize Eaton's standard drawing/modelling templates when creating new drawings or models.
  • Create and maintain drawing formats, templates, and symbols.
  • Complete Bill-of-Materials within Manufacturing Enterprise System MRP to convey product requirements to organization.


Qualifications:

Required (Basic) Qualifications:
  • Minimum of an Associates Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Technology
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and in the future
  • This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.
  • No relocation is being offered for this position. Only candidates that reside within a 50 mile radius of Orchard Park, NY will be considered. Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • BSME/BSMT, BSEE/BSET from an accredited institution
  • One (1) year or more years of work experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings
  • Three (3) years or more with commercial, aerospace or military product design


Skills:

  • SolidWorks Training/Experience
  • SolidWorks Certification - CSWP or higher preferred
  • Intermediate machining knowledge
  • Experience with Microsoft Office skills (WORD, EXCEL, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal skills (communication, motivation, team working).
  • Excellent time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Reporting clear, accurate and timely information
  • Effectiveness and relevance of data maintained and reported
