POSITION DESCRIPTION Position : CAD Technician / Drafter BASIC FUNCTION While operating a computer-aided design (CAD) system, prepares layout and design of technical project data for mechanical systems. From data and sketches formulates design concepts, calculates, and verifies specifications, and determines unspecified tolerances and dimensions to establish requirements for construction. The position relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is expected. NATURE & SCOPE: We are seeking a skilled, innovative, and experienced CAD Technician to join our dynamic Engineering team. The successful candidate will have a strong background in mechanical design and CAD drafting, with a focus on 3D modeling using SolidWorks. Knowledge of inspection tooling and use of calipers and micrometers for measuring parts. This role requires a high level of technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. The CAD Technician will play a crucial role in modeling current casting, patterns and revising old drawings to current specifications and standards. In this role, the CAD Technician is responsible for several items as they relate to the strategic mission of the organization. Utilize SolidWorks and other CAD software to create detailed 2D drawings and 3D models of mechanical components and assemblies in accordance with project specifications and industry standards. Collaborate with engineers and other team members to understand project requirements and develop design solutions. Apply appropriate GD&T features to further define drawing tolerances. Review and revise designs to ensure accuracy and quality, identifying and resolving potential design issues. Participate in design reviews, providing constructive feedback and suggestions for improvement. Stay up to date with the latest CAD technologies and industry trends, continuously enhancing technical skills and knowledge. Follow appropriate processes and ensure workflows are aligned. Provide support on various projects as required. Must be flexible by adjusting to changing priorities. Observe all safety regulations; participate in all safety training. PERFORMANCE MEASURES: Prompt and accurate generation of design drawings using CAD system. Maintain standards and conform to established policies and practices. ACCOUNTABILITIES: Responsible for the accuracy and availability of design drawings and customer documentation. Assure process improvement initiatives are implemented quickly and effectively. Stay up to date with the latest CAD technologies and industry trends, continuously enhancing technical skills and knowledge. QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE: An associate’s degree in a related area. 2 years design/drafting experience, preferably with rotating equipment. Mechanical design/analysis, drafting technology, manufacturing technology, field service, mathematics (algebra, trigonometry, geometry), GD&T, and quality programs. Proficient computer skills including MS Word, Excel, and CAD tools. Must have good verbal, written and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently in a professional capacity. Knowledge of 3D scanners and software a plus.
