Job Description
Our client in higher education is seeking an Instructional Designer that will play a critical role in creating engaging, high-quality learning experiences that support the institution’s academic goals. This position is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing digital learning resources, including courses on Canvas, and integrating educational technologies, such as Jenzabar, to enhance both online and in-person teaching. The Instructional Designer will collaborate with faculty and staff to align educational strategies with curriculum objectives, optimize course design for various learning formats, and ensure that technologies enhance instructional effectiveness.
Responsibilities:
Course Design and Development
- Work closely with faculty to design and develop courses in Canvas, ensuring alignment with academic standards and best practices for online learning.
- Develop interactive and multimedia content, including video lectures, simulations, and assessments that engage students and support diverse learning styles.
- Design templates, course shells, and other reusable assets within Canvas to streamline course creation and enhance visual consistency across the curriculum.
Integration of Jenzabar and Educational Technologies
- Collaborate with IT and academic departments to integrate Jenzabar with Canvas and other instructional tools, ensuring seamless data flow and user experience.
- Support faculty in using Jenzabar’s reporting and analytics capabilities to track student progress and identify opportunities for personalized instruction.
- Implement instructional technologies that enhance learning outcomes, including adaptive learning tools, assessment platforms, and analytics dashboards.
Faculty Training and Support
- Conduct workshops and one-on-one coaching sessions for faculty to promote best practices in instructional design and effective use of Canvas and Jenzabar.
- Develop instructional guides, video tutorials, and FAQs to support faculty and staff in adopting new technologies and instructional methods.
- Provide ongoing support and troubleshooting assistance to faculty, addressing questions related to course design, technology integration, and Canvas functionality.
Quality Assurance and Evaluation
- Implement quality assurance standards to ensure instructional materials are accessible, engaging, and effective.
- Gather feedback from students and faculty on course materials and teaching practices to inform continuous improvements.
- Conduct course evaluations and learning assessments to measure instructional effectiveness and make data-driven recommendations for enhancements.
Project Management and Collaboration
- Manage multiple instructional design projects simultaneously, setting timelines and ensuring completion within deadlines.
- Partner with faculty, academic deans, IT staff, and other stakeholders to align instructional design projects with departmental and institutional goals.
- Stay current on trends in instructional design and educational technology, bringing innovative ideas to improve the learning experience.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in instructional design or educational technology, particularly with Canvas and Jenzabar.
- Strong knowledge of learning theories, instructional design models, and best practices in online and hybrid education.
- Proficiency with multimedia creation tools, such as Adobe Creative Suite, Camtasia, or Articulate.
- Experience with accessibility standards and practices for digital content.
Preferred Skills
- Familiarity with HTML/CSS or other web development tools.
- Data-driven mindset with experience in learning analytics and data interpretation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
