Job Description:
The Graduate Resource Center invites applications for a full-time Graduate Research Editor position. The successful candidate will provide editorial support to graduate students and faculty in the preparation of research manuscripts, theses, dissertations, and other academic publications. This role involves ensuring the clarity, coherence, and quality of research documents, adhering to academic and publication standards. The editor will proofread original copies, as well as prepared materials, for readability and grammatical correctness. The editor will work closely with faculty in matters concerning editorial style and format in order to ensure consistency and quality of written materials to be submitted for courses and publications in print or online. This position is essential with support in the development, editing, and publication of research documents.

Job Description:
The Graduate Resource Center invites applications for a full-time Graduate Research Editor position. The successful candidate will provide editorial support to graduate students and faculty in the preparation of research manuscripts, theses, dissertations, and other academic publications. This position is essential with support in the development, editing, and publication of research documents.
Responsibilities:
- Deliver graduate student writing services and resources, including writing style workshops, dissertation editing services, etc.
- Collaborate with faculty members and/or program directors to establish ideal approaches to meet students' writing needs, will serve a diverse community of students, including students not writing in their native language(s), and will assist all students in improving their writing, particularly at the masters and doctoral level with both qualitative and quantitative research studies.
- Meeting with faculty to ensure writing styles and corrections are in-line with BSU Graduate School writing guidelines.
- Assures the successful completion of student documents consistent with established guidelines by organizing writing assignments in accordance to set conciseness, style, and terminology.
- Supports the Graduate Resource Center by maintaining a project log of documents, other records, and files and working with other staff members as part of a team.
- Editing and Proofreading:
- Review and edit research manuscripts, theses, dissertations, and other academic documents for grammar, punctuation, style, and formatting.
- Ensure that documents comply with institutional guidelines and publication standards.
- Verify the accuracy of citations and references.
- Consultation and Support:
- Provide one-on-one consultation to graduate students and researchers on writing and editing techniques.
- Assist in the development of writing workshops and training sessions.
- Offer guidance on the structure and organization of research papers.
- Quality Control:
- Conduct thorough reviews to ensure the quality and integrity of academic content.
- Identify and suggest improvements for clarity, coherence, and overall readability.
- Collaborate with authors to incorporate feedback and revisions.
- Research and Documentation:
- Stay updated on the latest academic writing standards and publication guidelines.
- Develop and maintain documentation templates and resources for academic writing.
- Assist in the preparation and submission of manuscripts to journals and conferences.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with faculty, researchers, and other editorial staff to coordinate the review process.
- Participate in editorial meetings and contribute to the development of editorial policies and procedures.
- Liaise with publishers and journals regarding submission requirements and publication processes.
- Professional Development:
- Stay current with best practices in graduate education and student services.
- Attend relevant conferences, workshops, and training sessions.
- Network with other professionals in the field to exchange ideas and resources.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Strong proofreading and editing skills are required. Organizational and planning skills are required. Knowledge of word processing is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to relate and communicate effectively with a diverse population of students, staff, faculty, colleagues and visitors
- Must have strong English language skills and the ability to read, write and verbally communicate at a level appropriate to the duties of the position
- Ability to operate a computer, proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and ability to learn and utilize new software programs
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree required. Terminal Degree preferred in Rhetoric and Composition, English, ELL Education (concentration in literacy/writing), Journalism, Communications, or a related field.
- 5 years of experience in a professional position writing, editing, and formatting academic materials
- Strong understanding of academic writing conventions and research methodologies.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in using editing and word processing software (e.g., Microsoft Word, LaTeX).
- Experience with reference management tools is a plus.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Prior experience in academic editing or publishing is preferred.
