Job Summary/Description:

The Managing Editor is a critical member of the news leadership team, responsible for working with reporters to ensure dynamic storytelling, must have a solid network of sources and be a natural leader. The Managing Editor is focused on accuracy, ethical reporting, adherence to deadlines, and the professional development of all reporters/writers on staff. The top candidate for this role is an experienced broadcast journalist and proven newsroom leader who is comfortable and effective at driving daily newsroom content with a constant commitment to excellence.

Duties/Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

* Daily assignment planning and assist with long-term planning (including big event coverage)
* Assign news crews
* Consistently work to advance daily news stories
* Tactfully motivate news personnel for best utilization of their individual talents
* Ability to calmly assign multiple news crews in breaking news situations
* Track local court proceedings and work with other local TV stations on pool coverage
* Work with news managers daily to win the day

Qualifications/Requirements:

* Bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience preferred
* At least two years working a major market newsroom assignment desk (or equivalent experience) preferred
* Detail-driven editor who is organized and can develop a logistics plan every day
* Outstanding editorial skills, interpersonal communication skills, and time management skills
* Scheduling flexibility is required
