What we're looking for

Argus is looking for an energetic and creative individual to lead our natural gas and power coverage in the U.S. This person should be adept at developing sources, coming up with new coverage that will solve industry problems, and comfortable interacting with both internal and external stakeholders.

This is a management position overseeing a team of reporters and editors, with responsibility for real-time coverage of natural gas, LNG and power markets, including but not limited to the price-assessment process, creation of market analysis and breaking news, coverage of events such as press conferences and industry gatherings, and management support. The US Gas and Power Editor also collaborates with colleagues on other teams and in other regions.

What will you be doing?
  • Maintain quality of team's market price assessments and adhere to rigorous compliance standards; includes regular or backup market coverage, as needed.
  • Oversee quality and relevance of methodology for related market(s).
  • Develop relationships within the industry and represent the service.
  • Find creative new avenues for coverage that meet client needs.
  • Speak at industry events and conferences as and when required.
  • Assist in directing, writing and editing market commentaries, news, analysis and market outlooks.
  • Liaise with non-editorial functions to ensure team priorities align with business objectives.
  • Communicate company message and management's direction to staff.
  • Oversee the hiring process, including interviewing prospective candidates.
  • Conduct regular reviews of staff to give and receive feedback. Identify high performers. Mentor staff.
  • Ensure adequate resourcing of teams regardless of vacations and sick leave.
  • Assist with training direct reports and provide regular feedback and guidance on daily work.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise to other Argus departments.
  • Identify training requirements for group and work with other senior editorial management to ensure best practices are adhered to.
  • Work on special projects as needed.


What we're looking for in you:
  • In-depth knowledge of the North American natural gas market, including meter points, pipeline zones, pools and hubs.
  • A solid understanding of global LNG markets, including the major players, trade flow dynamics, pricing mechanisms and key issues facing the industry.
  • Working knowledge of the North American power markets, including ISOs, generation sources, and transmission lines.
  • Knowledge of the price assessment process used to determine the value of commodities.
  • Strong writing and analytical skills, preferably with a background in journalism.
  • Experience leading and managing a team of reporters or analysts based in various locations.
  • Demonstrable ability to assess and implement strategic alternatives, as well as adjust quickly to changing opportunities and dynamics.
  • A clear grasp on the value and need for strong compliance procedures.
  • Good networking and presentation skills.
  • Strong Excel skills, and some familiarity with Access and VBA code.


Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Earlier or later hours, or weekend hours, may be expected on occasion.

Travel
5-15% is expected for this position.
