Summary

This is an UNPAID internship through the DoD SkillBridge Program for transitioning active-duty US military personnel. DoD SkillBridge Internships are available to help transitioning active-duty military personnel gain real-world experience in the work force sometime during their final 180 days of active-duty service. The intern will actively train on meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor and with senior company leadership. HII Mission Technologies (HII-MT) Internship programs are focused on placing transitioning military into internships that require KSAs, Education & Military Training similar to their current or previous military jobs; positions that could easily transition over to a full-time regular and permanent job with HII-MT.

For this internship, the intern will train as a Technical Editor/Writer (Drafting and Documentation) within HII-Mission Technologies, reporting to a designated HII Supervisor, with the goal of learning drafting and documentation principles, while becoming familiar with Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE) program, as well as the roles and responsibilities of working on the NCTE Drafting and Documentation team. The intern will be assigned special projects as needed.

Desired End State (3-4 month target)

+ The intern will develop a basic understanding of the NCTE installation and configuration processes in relation to drafting and documentation, gain familiarity with the Navy Shore Installation Process Handbook (SIPH) and the Fleet Readiness Certification Board (FRCB) Process Handbook.

+ The intern will develop a basic understanding of completing Installation Design Plan and As-built drawings in accordance with the SIPH.

+ The intern will develop a basic understanding of FRCB Handbook requirements to complete documents such as: Work Scopes, System Operational Verification Test (SOVT) templates and configuration management forms.

+ Mission Technologies will benefit from the military background of the SkillBridge intern and considers the SkillBridge internship an overall positive experience.

Assumptions/Restrictions

+ If candidate is selected and approved, SkillBridge Intern can travel in conjunction with this internship; HII Mission Technologies will fund all travel costs.

+ SkillBridge Intern will possess a technical background and have some familiarity with drafting and technical writing.

+ SkillBridge Intern will possess at minimum an Active Secret Security Clearance.

+ SkillBridge Intern will be available during core hours for critical meetings and training.

Training Plan

Phase 1 - Familiarization and Introductions

+ Week 1: In processing, Introductions/office familiarization

+ Week 2: Intro to the NCTE (Enterprise Architecture review; one-on-one training)

+ Week 3: Intro to NCTE Network and Applications (JIRA & Confluence training)

+ Week 4: Intro to Drafting and Documentation

+ Week 5: Intro to SIPH

Phase 2 - Shore Installation Process Handbook and Drafting

+ Week 6: TWMS SIPH Trainings

+ Week 7: Mock Site Survey Observation

+ Week 8: Intro to IDP and As-built development

+ Week 9: Complete Level 6 IDP and As-built

Phase 3 - Troubleshooting, NCTE Processes and Administration

+ Week 10: Intro to FRCB Handbook and Documentation

+ Week 11: Complete Work Scope

+ Week 12: Complete SOVT

+ Week 13: Complete Configuration Management Forms

Additional Goals

+ Instill NCTE drafting and documentation basics through SIPH & FRCB Handbook review, weekly team meeting attendance

+ Complete drafting and documentation products with little to no supervision

Minimum Qualifications

Active-Duty Military ONLY within final 180 days of active-duty service. Applications accepted during candidates final 12 months of active-duty service. Education and Experience dependent on Program of Instruction.

+ Must currently posses SECRET security clearance

+ Must have basic knowledge of latest Autodesk AutoCAD software, Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Office Products & Adobe PDF
