The Center for Workforce Inclusion is recruiting for a Graphic Designer position in the grant-administered Senior Environmental Employment (SEE) Program to work at the National Vehicle and Fuel Emissions Laboratory (NVFEL) operated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) based in Ann Arbor Michigan. Role and Responsibilities: Provides graphic design and creative consultant to the EPA's Office of Transportation and Air Quality (OTAQ) Divisions and Programs, including: Creative Consultant and Graphic Design: Develops original graphic design and visual information products to fit specific project needs. Provides highly creative and specialized expertise to OTAQ staff on document design, logo, graphics development, and brand identity as a part of Comprehensive communications strategies. Ensure graphics adhere to EPA design standards and policies. Meets with technical teams to understand the goals of the programs and applies knowledge of design and theory to develop materials that support program objectives. Design work includes meeting with staff to understand the needs and goals of the programs and how graphics can promote effective communication with target audiences. Work includes: Independently creating multiple design options for program staff. Working with program staff to make interim and final design selections. Producing the final product that is used for web and print. Evaluating the design of communications materials and making recommendations based on graphic design expertise; and Recommending options to enhance readability and comprehension. Uses Adobe Creative Suite to design, format, and layout documents, fact sheets, report cover templates, posters, banners, and produce any other art or graphic design work needed. Document Manager, Quality Control, Formatting, and Accessibility: Acts as the final reviewer on many OTAQ documents. Independently conducts final QA/QC and formatting on policy documents including, but not limited to, Final Rulemakings, Notice of Proposed Rule Makings, Public Hearing Announcements, Technical Support Documents (TSD), and Regulatory Impact Analysis (RIA) before they are posted to the web. Ensures final products meet EPA/OTAQ standards, are high quality, and typographical and weblinks error-free. Responsible for delivering final products in time to meet critical rulemaking and other deadlines. Applies knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility requirements to ensure documents posted to the internet meet 508 compliance standards. Crafts document metadata to improve searchability on the web. Printing and Publishing Expert: Independently evaluates and assesses documents to ensure they meet Agency policies and standards for print and internet formats. Evaluate staff printing requests and advise on how to proceed to ensure compliance with agency policy on printing. Qualifications and Education Requirements: Successful candidates must meet the age criteria of being 55 years of age or older and a United States citizen; able to pass a Federal Background check; BA/BS in Graphic Design/Editing/Quality Control; minimum of 10 years of experience in the field; experience in art direction, graphic design, and web design; ability to use specialized graphic design software. Hours & Compensation: Full-Time position working 40 hours per week @ $46,197 per year ($22.21 per hour), plus benefits including paid health insurance and generous vacation/sick/holiday leave.
