The Microsoft Mixed Reality team is seeking a Software Engineer II - Graphics to design, build, and maintain a Computer Vision (CV) service for use with Mixed Reality runtimes. This role will focus on various tasks related to computer graphics/runtime development both at high levels such as working unity and lower levels like Graphics and Neural Processing Unit development (GPU & NPU).
This role is likely to contribute to two distinct workstreams. The first is user-facing development of an Augmented Reality (AR) computer graphics application that validates the ability for our scene understanding runtimes to achieve expected experiences. The second are general opportunities within the team to contribute to cv runtime code specifically in the areas of low-level computing, GPU acceleration and NPU acceleration for Deep Neural Networks (DNN) models. In this role you will have guidance from experienced peers on targeted projects but be given the autonomy to drive these independently.

Responsibilities

Works with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of features.

Contributes to the identification of dependencies, and the development of design documents for a product area with little oversight.

Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable.

Contributes to efforts to break down larger work items into smaller work items and provides estimation.

Remains current in skills by investing time and effort into staying abreast of current developments that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.

Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications
-
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++ or C#

OR equivalent experience.
-
2+ years of technical engineering experience with computer graphics APIs such as DirectX , Vulcan , Metal etc.
-
1+ years of technical engineering experience with graphics engines such as Unity or Unreal engine .

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, or C#.

OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, or C#.

OR equivalent experience.

Experience working on AR applications and frameworks.

Experience working with NPUs and deep learning inference APIs.

Strong math background.
Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $98,300 - $193,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $127,200 - $208,800 per year.
