Position Summary:
The Ensemble Librarian is a vital member of Interlochen Center for the Arts, responsible for the management and distribution of music materials to support the high-level performances of Interlochen Arts Camp and Interlochen Arts Academy. The Fennell Music Library serves two world-renowned programs: Interlochen Arts Camp and Interlochen Arts Academy. The library's holdings include extensive collections of orchestral, band, choral, and jazz ensemble music, as well as chamber music and recordings. The Ensemble Librarian is key to ensuring that the Library meets the individual and programmatic needs of the performing ensembles at Interlochen Arts Camp and Interlochen Arts Academy. This role requires a strong knowledge of ensemble and library operations, and a commitment to supporting an environment of artistic excellence. The Ensemble Librarian not only manages daily operations but also engages in creative problem-solving and resource management to support a diverse community of musicians and students.
The library staff
Builds meaningful relationships with faculty, staff, and students.
Assists patrons in finding information.
Provides a collection that reflects and anticipates patrons' needs.
Creates a welcoming atmosphere.
This position works closely with the Director of Libraries and other library staff members to provide these services to the ICA community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Acquire and prepare parts and scores for Academy and Camp ensembles including orchestra, band, jazz, and choir
Acquire rental/performance licenses as needed
Provide direct supervision for the Assistant Music Librarian
Hire, train, and supervise summer Ensemble Librarian Interns
Demonstrate ability to read/write music in different clefs and transpositions, transcribe parts, and copy orchestra parts legibly and quickly using hand manuscript and computer notation software
Demonstrate knowledge of current score editions and reference sources, enabling performance from materials meeting the highest scholarly standards
Demonstrate experience with and knowledge of orchestral/band/choral/jazz repertoire and sources
Coordinate with faculty from various arts divisions on programmatic needs for Academy and Camp
Develop and maintain productive relationships with faculty
Participate in school-wide committee/volunteer work as appropriate
Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required
Other duties as assigned
Work Environment:
- Work is performed primarily in a standard office and library environment with extensive internal and external stakeholder contact.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in music required; master's degree preferred
ALA-accredited MLIS preferred
Experience:
Progressive responsibility in an ensemble library (3 to 5 years)
Thorough knowledge of orchestral literature, foreign terms, musical terms/signs (including bow markings), and contemporary notation;
Knowledgeable in current copyright and licensing standards
Understanding of both the current and future trends and practices in Ensemble Librarianship

Certifications, Licenses, or Special Training:
Must meet and maintain background screening requirements as detailed in policy 12.HR.01 Pre-Employment and Employee Background Checks.
Valid driver's license and driving record that meets the eligibility requirements of ICA's insurance carrier (for all positions requiring driving).
