Position Qualification

Position Summary

The Education & Research Services Librarian works collaboratively with a team of librarians to provide instruction, reference and research services and serves as a liaison to colleges or departments.
  1. Teaching Responsibilities 65%
  • Functions as a liaison to assigned departments, centers, or other units.
  • Works in close collaboration with a team of librarians to support students, faculty, and staff with their research and learning needs.
  • Cultivates partnerships and collaborates with university faculty on projects, including teaching, grants, manuscripts, papers, and/or poster presentations.
  • Participates in a team approach to providing prompt and effective reference, consultations, literature searches, and instructional services to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Develops online tutorials, workshops, and classroom programs to promote information literacy, and critical evaluation of health sciences information.
  • Develops and maintains research guides for specific disciplines and subjects.
  • Provides expert literature search services in support of patient care, clinical quality improvement projects, and research projects.
  • May join the systematic review team and conduct systematic and scoping reviews as a co-author with UNMC faculty.
  • Participates in library outreach.
  • Participates in professional activities and professional development.
  1. Research Responsibilities 25%
  • Expands the knowledge base of the field by engaging in research or creative works associated with the investigation, creation, discovery, understanding, or interpretation of professional knowledge or practice. Prepares and disseminates tangible evidence of these activities.
  1. Administration and Service 10%
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of strategic plans for in support of UNMC's education, research and patient care missions.
  • Participates in shared governance of the library.
  • Serves on library, UNMC, and NU system committees.
  • Participates in professional organizations.
  • Manages or assists with special projects.


Required Qualifications
  • Advanced degree in research-related field or master's degree in library science from an ALA-accredited institution.
  • At least one year of experience as a librarian in an academic or health sciences library.
  • Experience conducting literature searches and providing instruction in research databases.
  • Demonstrated teaching skills.
  • Knowledge of information literacy in health sciences disciplines
  • Ability to develop high quality curricular materials, i.e. guides, tutorials, videos, and/or online modules to meet defined learning outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and connect with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Excellent presentation, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Commitment to demonstrating collegiality and fostering a collaborative, welcoming environment.
