Librarian Technical Services

Part Time Temporary

Pay: $19.50/hour

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Position Summary:

Performs duties in the Technical Services work group, including cataloging and ordering of library materials. Assists as backup for interlibrary loan and serials.

Work Schedule:

  • One (1) - 19 hour per week position.

Essential Duties:

  • Processing and receiving orders of library materials.
  • Copy cataloging, changing existing records as needed, and processing materials.
  • Learn Serials, Inter-library loan and Amazon sale procedures to serve as back-up.
  • Work with other Technical Services personnel and Technical Services Manager to effectively manage workflow of Technical Services processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor's degree required or Master of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited library school preferred. At least one year of experience in a library or related setting providing customer service to adults.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of library cataloging and classification using an integrated library system.
  • Working knowledge of AACR2, RDA, OCLC Connection, BTCAT and OCLC WorldShare.
  • Skilled in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to analyze and facilitate resolution of problems.
  • Ability to effectively administer day-to-day operations including workflow management.
  • Ability to exercise initiative, sound judgment, and discretion in performance of duties.
  • Ability to work well with and direct volunteers.
  • Ability to work well with minimal supervision.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a library environment.
  • Safely lifts, carries, and/or pushes materials including full book carts, book bins, and lifting tubs weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Safely performs physically demanding duties involving repetitive standing, walking, reaching, bending, and stretching for long periods of time.
  • Safely operates a variety of standard office equipment including a computer, laptop and/or tablet PC, telephone, bar code reader, copier, requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand, and eye movement.
  • Work is performed in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity to change and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities, and needs.
  • Clearly, concisely, and effectively communicate in person and over the telephone.

Successful candidate will receive a post-offer, pre-employment background screening to include:
