Overview:

Primarily responsible for directly supervising hourly student employees, approximately six to eight each semester. This position also creates training materials and policies for student employees. This position also oversees LLC data collection, and keeps files relating to patron accounts. As part of their duties supervising students, this position will assist the Library head with maintaining the Student Worker budget. The position reports to the Library Manager, Archives & Special Collections/LLC Building Manager. Contributes to the creation and implementation of library policies, procedures, and library workflows or services. It serves on library and campus committees as necessary along with helping to coordinate and staff LLC outreach activities, programming, and events.



Responsibilities:
  • Hires, trains, and supervises hourly staff. May also supervise benefited staff.
  • Coordinates and ensures quality of library circulation services through appropriate staff scheduling, training, assessment, and internal communication. Also provides circulation services themselves.
  • Manages workload priorities for oneself and team members, ensuring the timely completion of scheduled and assigned tasks within established guidelines.
  • Records, compiles, and manages statistics for library patronage along with statistics for reference questions asked at circulation desk.
  • Manages projects involving the shelving, relocation, placement, and maintenance of printed library materials.
  • Creates documentation and schedules for training of student staff.
  • Creates and maintains files relating to student workers.
  • Assists with maintaining and updating websites for library hours, including working with IT for door lock schedules.
  • Manages scheduling of LLC spaces and posts signage for LLC events, closures, and room reservations.
  • Helps create and implement library policies and procedures with library staff.
  • Maintains student worker budget, helps set student wages, and works with library head on adjusting student budget.
  • Helps distribute library marketing materials.
  • Creates or helps maintain some book displays within the library.
  • Provides back-up for makerspace and special collections patrons along with building manager.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree; or an associate degree plus two years of experience in a library; or four years of experience in a library.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of or ability to learn library related computer programs and equipment, including SCA microfilm equipment.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn makerspace equipment and programs.
  • Computer skills, including Word, Excel, Canva, and web browsers.
  • Records maintenance skills.
  • Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
  • Database management skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, patrons, and external stakeholders.
  • Effective problem-solving skills to assist patrons and stakeholders.
  • Ability to organize work effectively, conceptualize and prioritize objectives, and exercise judgment.
  • Ability to make procedural decisions and judgments.
  • Knowledge or ability to train in the principles and procedures of professional library work including methods, practices, and techniques.

Advertised Salary:
Minimum $27,923; Commensurate with experience, plus excellent benefits
