The City of Anaheim Public Library seeks an enthusiastic and dynamic Part Time Library Page Driver. Under direct supervision, the Part Time Library Page Driver drives a library vehicle to deliver circulating materials, supplies, and equipment to City and Library locations; loads and unloads book bins; carries out sorting, processing, and distribution activities; collects, transports, and delivers financial deposits and receipts from/to the Library department or to the Finance Department; makes assessments of vehicle safety and operability; and performs related work as required.
This is a library support position, similar to Library Page, but unique in that the materials support provided is accomplished primarily by driving a library vehicle to deliver materials throughout the library system. Responsibilities include materials processing, sorting, shelving, and transporting library books as well as minor vehicle upkeep. Incumbents assigned to this classification also collect and deliver financial items such as cash deposits and receipts. Incumbents perform most of the duties by themselves, adhering to a specified delivery schedule. Incumbents follow prescribed procedures and guidelines in the organization and preparation of deliveries. Assigned tasks do not include direct patron interaction. Incumbents in this classification primarily perform routine and repetitive tasks and assignments are generally limited in scope. This class is distinguished from the Library Bookmobile Clerk in that the latter operates the library bookmobile, driving to designated areas to offer library circulation and program services, and providing direct customer service to patrons.
Candidates must have completed high school (or obtained the GED) and possess a valid California Driver's License by time of appointment.
Experience operating a large or commercial vehicle and working in a library are desirable.
This is a part time position, typically assigned 10 hours per week, up to a maximum of 15, with no minimum number of hours guaranteed. Scheduled hours will be on Saturdays and/or Sundays.

There are eleven Library outlets serving the City of Anaheim and surrounding communities. This includes a Central Library, six branch libraries, a mobile library, a mobile STEAM van, the self-service branch at ARTIC Transportation Center, and the Anaheim Heritage Center which houses our local history collections.
The following functions are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed functions and/or may be required to perform additional or different functions from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
Drives a motorized mobile library vehicle on a scheduled route, collecting and delivering circulating materials, supplies, and equipment.
Performs daily routine upkeep on vehicle; fills vehicle with fuel and maintains clean condition; takes vehicle to the City's Fleet Service Department for regular servicing; monitors records of maintenance checks; notifies supervisor if any issues are identified during the vehicle inspection or while driving.
Loads and unloads book bins; sorts books, library materials, equipment, mail, monies and other items to appropriate book cart, bin, or box.
Provides assistance with receiving, checking in, and processing library materials.
Performs sorting and shelving of library materials such as books, audio-visual media, newspapers, magazines, and other material; retrieves library materials from shelves and book trucks; sorts and prepares library materials for shelving.
Collects daily cash deposits and credit card receipts from library branches and delivers to library administration.
Delivers Library credit card receipts to the Collections Division of the Finance Department.
Delivers mail to the Library, consortium and joint use libraries, and other City departments.
May prepare conference rooms for meetings, library programs, and community gatherings; move and arrange furniture (e.g. tables, chairs, podium) into specific configurations requested for the meeting; and set up coffee service and other refreshments.
Performs special deliveries, transporting boxes and cases of supplies, small furniture items, computer and other electronic equipment, etc. that are not part of the daily delivery.
Performs a variety of clerical and office support tasks such as assembling and breaking down boxes, raising and taking down flags, unlocking and locking of the public doors, shredding of library materials, and storage and retrieval of library supplies.
Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Experience and Training: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
Knowledge of: Safe driving practices and vehicle operation, and routine upkeep; basic library operating principles, including confidentiality of customer information; standard library practices and procedures; basic record keeping principles and procedures; basic principles of arithmetic; modern office practices, methods and computer equipment; English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation; techniques for providing a high level of customer service by effectively dealing with the consortium members and other City staff.
Ability to: Drive a large vehicle for extended periods of time; read maps and determine alternate routes; navigate throughout the City-wide library system; maintain accurate logs, records, and basic written reports of work performed; understand and follow department policies and procedures related to assigned duties, and oral and written instructions; accurately shelve and file materials using library alpha-numeric systems; operate modern office equipment including computer equipment and specialized library services software applications programs; use English effectively to communicate in person and over the telephone; make sound decisions within established policy and procedural guidelines; use tact, initiative, prudence, and judgment within narrow policy, procedural, and legal guidelines; establish, maintain, and foster positive and effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
License/Certification Required: Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Driver's License (Class C) by time of appointment.
Environment/Working Conditions
Required to work flexible schedules including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Environmental Conditions: Employees are stationed primarily within a vehicle serving as the library page driver and spend a significant amount of time in daily transit. Incumbents may be exposed to smoke/fumes/gas, dirt/dust, grease/oil, chemicals, excessive heat/cold, inclement weather, road hazards, and high frequency noise.
Physical Conditions: Must possess mobility to use standard office equipment, including a computer; to operate a motor vehicle and to visit various Library sites; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator, and to operate standard office and bookmobile equipment. Positions in this classification regularly engage in movements such as climb stairs, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, carry, push, and pull to move items, storage containers, bins of materials, and shelving units in order to retrieve and shelve items, and in order to move materials from one place to another. Incumbents must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing an average of 20 pounds, but up to 50 pounds of weight by lifting and carrying, and up to 250 pounds of weight by pushing and pulling, with the aid of lifting/moving equipment.
