Position Description
St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners is seeking a Circulation Supervisor for the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library of the St. Johns County Public Library System.
St. Johns County residents enjoy a healthy quality of life with many perks including one of the top rated public school systems in the State of Florida, miles of beach shoreline, peaceful estuary scenery of the St. Johns River, long established agriculture and equestrian scene, and the nation's oldest city, historic St. Augustine. SJCPLS encourages a love of literature, the arts, and lifelong learning by providing a variety of information, resources, and entertainment to the community. SJCPLS serves all areas of St. Johns County, including St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra Beach, Fruit Cove, and Hastings. The Library System has six branches, two bookmobiles, and offers books-by-mail service. In addition to books, periodicals, and online databases, SJCPLS offers computer access, notary services, Inter-Library Loan, access to a Seed Library, test proctoring, and many volunteer opportunities. The Library System also offers a dynamic range of programming for adults, teens, and children.
Employees work in a team-oriented environment and are responsible for assisting with library circulation, reference, youth and adult service areas.

- Work involves training, assigning, evaluating, and reviewing work of subordinate staff.
- Assists the Branch Manager in the interview and selection of Circulation candidates.
- Participates in collection management activities as assigned: sorts donations; conducts bibliographic searches; identifies items for replacement or repair; mends books and other library materials.
- Participates in circulation activities as assigned: issues and cancels patron's borrower cards; resolves lost or damaged items; processes hold requests; collects fines and fees.
- Facilitates the resolution of customer issues and complaints.
- Assists with providing reader's advisory, reference and general information to patrons of all ages; provides assistance and instruction regarding the use of databases, catalogs, and computer applications.
- Knowledge of current and emerging trends and practices in library management, services and development.
- Knowledge of library operating policies, procedures, principles, programs and services.
- Knowledge of standard circulation, reference and library request procedures.
- Knowledge of customer service principles, practices, techniques and methods.
- Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
Candidates for the Circulation Supervisor are encouraged to apply if they meet the following minimum qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent recognized certification. Bachelor's degree from accredited university or college is preferred.
- Minimum three (3) years paid and progressively responsible library or customer service experience.
- Minimum two (2) years of supervisory experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions is preferred.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills in order to serve others.
- Works a schedule to include weekends, evenings and holidays or also at other branches as assigned.
- Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language.
- Must be able to operate a computer.
