Job Description

Performs skilled administrative support work in the public service areas of the public library, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Librarian.

Please Note: This posting is for a Full Time position at the Richlands Branch of the Onslow County Public Library.
Some weekend and evening work is required.

Qualification Requirements

Position Responsibilities

  • Provides patrons with customer service and assistance with library resources.
  • Processes library materials and memberships for patrons; ensures materials are returned in good repair.
  • Collects money; prepares cash report; reconciles cash drawer; issues receipts and overdue notices.
  • Shelves library materials and straightens shelves; assists with maintaining library collections and repairing materials.
  • Answers patron questions and resolves complaints.
  • Compiles data, prepares reports, and maintains files.
  • Processes interlibrary loans.
  • Assists with oversight of volunteers.
  • Performs assigned functions as a Disaster Ready Team (DRT) member, if appointed or volunteer.
  • Performs related tasks as required.

Qualifications

Some knowledge of library operations; general knowledge of office terminology, procedures and equipment; ability to perform library tasks and to adhere to prescribed routines; ability to perform routine clerical tasks; ability to operate standard office and computer equipment; ability to operate standard office productivity software such as Microsoft Office, ability to operate various mobile devices such as e-readers, tablets, and smart phones; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and customers.

Education, Experience, and Special Requirements

High school diploma or GED and moderate experience in customer service, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Salary will be determined by candidate's qualifications, budget, market, and internal equity.

North Carolina Local Governmental Employees' Retirement System
Eligible employees are automatically enrolled in the retirement system and must contribute 6% of their gross salary each pay period. Once eligibility requirements are met, employees will be able to receive monthly payments for life based on their salary, age, and years of service credit.

NC401k
The County contributes 1/2% of employees' gross salary into the 401(k) account regardless of the employee's deferral amount. In addition, the County matches employee deferrals up to an additional 2%.

Vacation Leave
Regular full-time employees earn 13.5 days of vacation leave per year. With each 5-year increment of employment, vacation accrual increases.

Sick Leave
Regular full-time employees earn 12 days of sick leave per year.

Paid Holidays
County employees receive paid holidays annually. The Board of County Commissioners approves and may adjust the schedule as deemed necessary.
