Wage: $17.00 per hour/part-time

Position Summary: If you love talking to people and helping them find books, this is the position for you! The library assistant will help adult students, volunteers, and staff utilize the physical resources at Literacy Connects, including the free book area, library collection, online catalog, and other program materials. The library assistant will be supported by a Library Mentor and will work alongside other volunteers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
•Welcome people into the Literacy Connects (LC) library area
•Assist program volunteers in finding book resources
•Reshelf books in both the LC library and free book area
•Assist Literacy Connects library patrons in checking out and checking in loaned materials
•Work with Library Mentor to keep the library resources organized, well stocked, and tidy
•Read Library newsletter to stay informed about program topics and resources
•Function as a team to enhance the mission of Literacy Connects
•Support LC programming one evening/week at the front desk and library
•Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
•Understanding of the organization's mission and values
•Dependable with strong time management and communication skills
•Comfortable with computers and Microsoft Office Suite
•Able to stand for up to for 4-8 hours and lift up to 25 lbs
•Friendly and outgoing personality
•Ability to multitask
•Be at least 18 years old
•Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
•Successful results of a criminal background check

Hours: The Literacy Connects office is open 9 am to 5 pm, M-F with some classes and events in the
evenings.
