Social Media Manager Salary: See Position Description Location: Cedar City, UT Job Type: Full-time Staff Job Number: 202400003 Division: Advancement & Enrollment Management Closing: FLSA: Exempt Position Summary The Social Media Manager at Southern Utah University plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing the institution's social media and content strategies. Reporting to the Director of Marketing, this position combines expertise in social media management with a strong focus on content creation and storytelling. The Social Media Manager will oversee the planning, production, and optimization of university-level social media content while contributing significantly to the development of written and multimedia materials for other marketing platforms, including the website, blog, digital ads, and print collateral. This position collaborates with various stakeholders to engage current and prospective students, parents, alumni, community members, and other university affiliates. Essential Functions • Develop and implement comprehensive institutional social media strategies across platforms, using market trends. Lead the university's social media team, ensuring cohesive and effective campaigns. • Write, edit, and coordinate daily content that aligns with larger brand missions, used primarily for social media but to also support other promotional channels. Own the blog writing and publishing process. Establish and evolve social media ambassadors to increase peer-to-peer recruitments. • Manage a team of student workers, providing mentorship and guidance to enhance their educational experience. Coach university-wide employees on content creation and social media best practices. • Ensure all institutional social media content aligns with the university. Collaborate closely with the legal office and IT to ensure adherence to relevant laws and to safeguard the university from potential litigation. • Ensure swift and effective dissemination of information during emergencies. Collaborate with the Director of Public Relations to craft and communicate clear, accurate messages to the public. • Establish metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of both social media and broader content strategies. Provide reports that include insights into how multi-platform content contributes to university goals and suggest recommendations for continuous improvement. • Monitor online conversations, actively participating to build brand visibility and thought leadership. Contribute to the strategic planning of university social media initiatives. Education & Experience Minimum Qualifications- • Minimum of two years managing social media accounts for an organization. • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite with a keen eye for design. • Basic knowledge of statistics and data analysis. • Working knowledge of SEM and SEO principles. • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team. • Experience in managing and leading a team. • Previous experience in advertising, communication, marketing, or public relations. Preferred Qualifications- • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a portfolio that demonstrates the ability to craft compelling stories. • Ability to transition seamlessly between strategic, creative, and analytical aspects of marketing. • Strong storytelling and presentation skills, including experience in content strategy for websites, blogs, or advertising campaigns. • Adaptable and capable of handling multiple assignments under tight deadlines. • Experience in social media management specific to higher education.
