Position Summary
Position serves to support the outreach and education programs and activities for NOAA Gray's Reef National Marine Sanctuary (GRNMS) located in Savannah, GA, as well as distributed events. The primary responsibility of the Education & Social Media Specialist will be promoting, developing, and delivering GRNMS specific formal and non-formal environmental education/interpretive programs for in-person and virtual events.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
* Proven background managing social media accounts, including developing content, engagement strategies, and analytics reviews. (Preferred)
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability and willingness to speak before a variety of audiences. (Preferred)
* Ability to communicate effectively for the purposes of coordinating activities; consulting with professional and technical experts; and securing cooperation from others.
* Experience working in interpretive based visitor centers or similar public environments.
* Strong organizational and time management skills.
* Experience developing, leading, and evaluating environmental educational programs and developing program projections.
* Ability to innovate practical solutions to problems as they arise and distinguish among competing priorities and balance complex and demanding workloads; organize and coordinate work assignments.
* Ability to use computer software programs provided.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
* Ability to occasionally work irregular hours and prepare reports and records.
* Experience supporting federally funded programs and/or events.
Physical Demands
* Lift and carry a minimum of 25 pounds, exert up to 50 pounds of force

Duties/Responsibilities
Duties/Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the UGA State Program Manager, and as part of the GRNMS Outreach and Education team, manage the strategy, content development, and roll out implementation of GRNMS social media plan and individual social media plan and individual social media campaigns including multiple social media platforms and content management systems.
Percentage of time 30 Duties/Responsibilities
Support reoccurring programming at the GRNMS Ocean Discovery Center including the planning and implementation of education and interpretive programs and activities.
Percentage of time 25 Duties/Responsibilities
Works closely with GRNMS communication team, support public outreach events.
Percentage of time 15 Duties/Responsibilities
Recruit, train, schedule and coordinate outreach volunteer activities. This includes identifying training needs, developing and implementing training, scheduling, and volunteer appreciation.
Percentage of time 10 Duties/Responsibilities
Working with the GRNMS Outreach and Education team, develop, lead, and evaluate GRNMS environmental outreach and interpretive programs and virtual events.
Percentage of time 10 Duties/Responsibilities
Ensure program objectives and milestones are accomplished; and support development and implementation of the annual outreach operating plan, volunteer effort, and budget.

Support other GRNMS management and support activities as necessary including identifying and submitting external funding opportunities that support the GRNMS education and outreach programs.
