The successful candidate for this position will be a 1099 contractor with Music Ministry International and be responsible for the following:
1.0 Position Title. Protestant Music Director
2.0 Scope of Responsibilities.
The Protestant Music Director shall provide for a comprehensive choral music ministry
and associated programming, including all necessary music direction, and necessary
advertising coordinated with responsible chaplain or chapel administrative staff.
Qualifications.
2.1 Two plus years' experience in leading music ministry.
2.2 The ability to play and direct music with emphasis in the contemporary worship
tradition.
2.3 Experience in planning and leading music in church or chapel setting.
2.4 Ability to play keyboard, piano or guitar as needed.
2.5 Ability to sing and lead a team of musicians for congregational singing.
2.6 Adequate command of music theory to transpose, arrange, and lead music as needed.
2.7 Must have a mature command of speaking, writing, and reading the English language.
2.8 Knowledge and understanding of the various forms of music used in different Protestant
worship settings.
2.9 The ability to work with individuals from different denominational backgrounds.
3.0 Additional Responsibilities. The Protestant Music Director shall:
a. Provide musical worship for the entire service, from prelude to postlude for each
service. Protestant contemporary worship services are held every Sunday at 9:45 a.m.
b. Provide for a comprehensive choral music ministry.
c. Coordinate all musical activities with the chapel staff, utilizing proper chapel forms
when necessary, and verifying that proposed activities are included in the chapel
calendar.
d. Perform custodial responsibilities for musical supplies such as songbooks, sheet music, etc.
e. Total maximum sessions are 52 Sunday performances, 52 regular weekly rehearsals and
12 specials (Holy Days, rehearsals, special events/activities) for a total maximum of 116 units.
One unit is equal to one service, special event/activities, rehearsal, and payment will be based
on units performed.
f. Arrive no later than thirty minutes prior to the worship service in order to meet with the chaplain in charge of the service to review the order of worship, direct the choir during warm-up, and ensure any other musical needs are met.
g. Lead all hymns and worship songs for congregational singing
h. Recruit adult choir members and participation from the parish.
i. Direct the adult choir during the worship service.
j. Direct the adult choir during choir rehearsals. Rehearsals shall be at least 1 hour in
duration.
k. Prepare the adult choir for special seasonal presentations, such as Christmas cantatas
and Easter programs.
l. Provide inputs for advertising of seasonal or special musical programming.
m. Maintain good care and custody of Chapel property.
n. Conform to written policies and guidance by Government personnel regarding building,
real property and personnel security. The contractor shall submit written requests for
any facility, equipment, or supply needs to the Chapel Non-Commissioned Officer in
Charge (NCOIC), and use established Chapel procedures/forms and avenues of
communication and coordination.
o. Comply with copyright laws.
4.1. Musical Selections. The Protestant Music Director shall organize all choral selections
and coordinate such selections with the accompanist/s (if assigned) and provide
direction to choir members. The selections chosen shall be appropriate church music for
the type of worship service being conducted, and related to the church season when
possible. The chaplain responsible for the service will confirm all congregational hymns
and is the approval authority for all music selections.
4.2. Rehearsals. The Protestant Music Director shall meet, at a minimum, once monthly with
the Contemporary Worship Chaplain for purposes of coordinating the musical program.
Weekly rehearsals must be at least 1 hour in duration. The praise team warm-up time
prior to a service is considered part of the service.
4.3 Substitutions. The Protestant Music Director shall obtain a substitute if not able to
perform services, providing at least 24-hours notice to the Wing Chaplain or his/her
designee prior to the scheduled service or function, when possible. The substitute's
musical ability must be acceptable to the Wing Chaplain
