TITLE: MacPhail Music For Life™ Instructor
REPORTS TO: MacPhail Music For Life™ Manager
STATUS: Exempt, Part-Time; 5-10 hours per week

JOB SUMMARY
The MacPhail Music For Life™ Instructor is responsible for providing group music instruction as
part of our creative aging music education program. This position teaches during times designated
by MacPhail as having need.

RESPONSIBLITIES
  • Provide high quality group music instruction to older adults in a variety of settings, including independent and assisted living residences, care centers, adult day centers, community centers, and MacPhail.
  • Adapt music resources and materials for use with the Music For Life™ curriculum to meet specific needs of the partnership.
  • Return all correspondence, paperwork and phone calls to students, families, partnerships and MacPhail administration in a timely manner.
  • Act as a liaison between partnership site staff and the MacPhail Music For Life™ administrative team.
  • Participate in Music For Life™ training and continuing education programs as requested by MacPhail Music For LifeTM Manager
  • Create a positive learning environment through the establishment of good rapport with students, families and partnerships, and encouraging open discussion.
  • Communicate with students, families and partnerships regarding student's progress and future directions, scheduling and related administrative policies.
  • Expand the student teacher relationship beyond the partnership, encouraging students to participate in MacPhail opportunities, and develop relationships with peers at MacPhail.
  • Be an ambassador for MacPhail, representing MacPhail positively to the community, and working to recruit students to MacPhail.
  • Attend MacPhail, department, and program meetings as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree in music or equivalent experience; MT-BC preferred.
Experience: Experience with and/or interest in working with older adults (including those with memory loss), experience leading music programs with young children (for intergenerational programs), experience teaching music in a group setting
Knowledge and Skills: Comfortable leading in a group setting, strong piano and/or guitar skills, ability to adapt music resources and materials, excellent communication skills, understanding of best practices in working with people experiencing memory loss, flexibility/adaptability, positive attitude and demeanor, patient and fun personality, ability to work in a self-directed manner, working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Outlook.
