Jackson Behavioral Health Hospital (JBHH) is a three-story, 180,000-square-foot facility committed to the highest quality, treatment, and service. Opened in 1999, JBHH consolidates evaluation, clinical treatment, teaching and research, to offer a full continuum of care for children, adolescents, adults and elderly, including crisis stabilization, inpatient hospitalization, and outpatient programs. In association with the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine's Department of Psychiatry, JBHH offers specialized treatment for numerous conditions including depression and mood disorders, schizophrenia, suicidal ideation or behavior, anxiety and panic disorders, drug and alcohol abuse and Alzheimer's disease. JBHH also specializes in criminal justice mental health services.
Position Summary
The Music Therapist will establish a music therapy program for children with chronic illnesses that require daily, ongoing nursing care, physical, occupational and speech therapy along with respiratory support.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Assesses needs and administers direct music therapy treatments in order to provide habilitative and rehabilitative services to patients', both individually and in groups.
• Plans and organizes music therapeutic activities in accordance with patients' needs, capabilities and interest. Participates in instrumental and vocal music activities designed to meet patients' needs such as solo or group singing, rhythmic music activities or playing in bands.
• Observes and evaluates patients' reactions to various experiences and prepares reports documenting therapeutic changes.
• Coordinates the music therapy treatment program with other therapy programs treatment provided by other treatment team members.
• Develops a music therapy student practicum and internship program, a volunteer program and act as a liaison in the community.
• Maintains a music library, and necessary materials, equipment, and supplies. Collaborates with multidisciplinary team in provision of direct patient care.
• Participates in the development of grant proposals for future funding of the program. Maintains records and prepares reports and correspondence related to the work.
• Performs other related duties as assigned. Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).
Education
Bachelor's degree in related field is required
Experience
• Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience.
• Professional clinical experience with medical needs of children/adolescent programming, proficiency in piano/keyboard and/or guitar required (live audition or video tape may be requested).
License/Certification
Music Therapy Board Certified (MT-BC) is required.
