GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:
This is an instructional position with a 15-hour teaching load per semester. Duties include conducting the College Chorale and other ensemble(s) depending upon qualifications and department needs, academic advising, recruiting vocal students in close collaboration with the applied voice teachers and Opera Program, and teaching other courses in the department based on the candidate's education and experience. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to: maintaining office hours, participating in college committees, promoting and supporting the department's mission and goals, leading extra-curricular activities, participating in professional development activities, and working across departments to develop student communication and problem-solving skills. Faculty are expected to accept courses as assigned which could include face-to-face and non-traditional venues, such as evening, weekend, dual credit, blended, and/or online courses. This position reports to the Division Chair, Visual & Performing Arts.
NOTE: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.
THE DEPARTMENT:
Music facilities consist of a 330-seat and a 100-seat performance hall, 14 practice rooms, a state-of-the-art digital recording studio, as well as faculty offices/studios and classrooms with up-to-date technology. The department is housed in the Ball Performing Arts Center and the Music and Theatre Arts Building. There are currently 6 full-time and 12 adjunct instructors in the Transfer Music Department. In addition to an active recital schedule which includes 1-2 Steinway Series concerts, McLennan Music and Theatre Departments collaborate yearly to produce a fully staged Opera and Broadway Musical with orchestra. McLennan Community College is an All Steinway School.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
Knowledge of: 1. Choral pedagogy; 2. Building a choral music program; 3. Current trends in choral music education; 4. Selecting appropriately challenging repertoire for freshmen/sophomore choirs Ability to: 5. Conduct college-level choral ensembles; 6. Recruit and maintain a pool of choral and voice students; 7. Evaluate student performance; 8. Develop and maintain quality relationships with community music organizations and area high school choir directors; 9. Prepare the choir(s) for collaborative community performances; 10. Provide leadership for student participation in music organizations; 11. Work collaboratively within and across departmental lines; 12. Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Restricted-Sustained posture, for prolonged periods; light lifting, some walking, pushing, pulling on a regular basis Minimal Hazard/Exposure: Standard office setting. At least minimal environmental controls to assure health and comfort.
QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Master's degree from an accredited college or university with 18 graduate hours in Music
Experience: Evidence of conducting and teaching experience at the college/university and/or high school level
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Earned Doctorate degree in Music from an accredited college or university
