Job Summary
Do you love music and enjoy teaching others? The YMCA of Memphis & The Mid-South is seeking a Music Instructor to lead dynamic and engaging music classes for children, teens, and adults. In this role, you will inspire a passion for music while fostering creativity, building skills, and creating a sense of community in a fun, safe, and supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities
Lead Music Instruction: Conduct fun and educational music classes that promote learning and creativity, ensuring alignment with the YMCA’s mission and values.
Develop Lesson Plans: Design and implement lesson plans tailored to participants' ages, abilities, and goals, encouraging growth in musical skills.
Foster Community: Build positive relationships with participants and parents, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Promote Engagement: Deliver high-energy, motivating classes that keep participants excited and focused on their musical journey.
Celebrate Achievements: Recognize and celebrate individual and group milestones, encouraging confidence and a love for music.
Ensure Safety: Supervise participants during lessons and maintain a safe, supportive class environment.
Maintain Equipment & Facilities: Check and clean equipment daily to ensure a safe and organized space for learning.
Communicate Progress: Share updates with parents/guardians on participants' progress and program goals.
Participate in Training: Obtain and maintain required certifications, attend staff meetings, and complete mandatory training sessions.
Perform Other Duties as Needed: Support YMCA initiatives and events as part of the team.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (some college preferred)
- Minimum 18 years of age
- At least 1 year of music training experience
- Passion for music, youth development, and building community.
- Teaching experience a plus
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to connect with
- diverse groups
- Willingness to obtain CPR/AED & First Aid certifications
- Availability to work evenings and weekends.
Work Environment:
This position involves physical activities such as standing, kneeling, and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds. Exposure to some electrical/mechanical elements and cleaning supplies may occur.
