Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from accredited university

Valid Texas teaching certificate for music education and level assigned

Kodly Certification Level I (minimum) preferred

Knowledge of subjects assigned

General knowledge of design and delivery issues related to alignment for best results in student achievement

Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Student teaching or approved internship

Primary Purpose:

Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth through the study and engagement in music education. Prepare students for successful participation in various musical venues, i.e. programs, concerts, and community performances.Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of district's curriculum program and show evidence of preparation in KMAC as required by district policy.
  2. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
  3. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  4. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect accommodation for individual needs of students assigned.
  5. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  6. Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  7. Cooperate with other members of staff for planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
  8. Plan and supervise purposeful assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
  9. Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  10. Assist students in analyzing and improving study methods and habits.
  11. Consistently assess student achievement through formal and informal testing and use results to plan instructional activities.
  12. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  13. Present positive role model for students, support mission of school district.
  14. Demonstrate proficient vocal and instrumental skills within the classroom setting.
  15. Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  16. Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies, administrative regulations and IEPs.
  17. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  18. Keep informed and comply with all safety precautions and district procedures pertaining to performances and field trips.
  19. Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  20. Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
  21. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  22. Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  23. Participate in the district staff development program.
  24. Participate in district defined music activities and performances.
  25. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
  26. Attend professional development sessions pertaining to elementary music education offered through state and/or university conferences and in-district/out-of-district workshops.
  27. Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  28. Keep informed and comply with all district music guidelines.
  29. Attend all meetings as requested to review, create, and revise music curriculum, policies, procedures and activities.
  30. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
  31. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  32. Articulate the district's mission and goals in areas of assigned responsibilities to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
  33. Demonstrate awareness of district/community needs and initiate activities to meet identified needs.
  34. Demonstrate the use of appropriate and effective techniques for community and parent involvement.

Equipment Used:

Computer, FAX, copier, overhead projector, VCR, DVD, CD player, tape recorder, equipment and substances particularly unique to the music education teaching assignment.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervise assigned teacher aide(s) and student teacher(s).

Working Conditions:

Physical demands/environment factors: May require standing for long periods of time. Frequent stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.Mental demands:Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); ability to instruct; maintain emotional control under stress.
