Job Summary

Chartwells Higher Education is seeking a self-motivated individual for the role of General Manager at the Manhattan School of Music in New York City.

As the General Manager, you will be a "hands-on" leader responsible for all campus dining and vending operations leadership and have authority to make decisions. You will lead and engage with our dining and culinary teams by creating excitement and enthusiasm, in accordance with the organization’s and MSM’s culture, ensuring our programs and guidelines are followed. This position will be responsible for driving guest satisfaction and engagement! This position must have a current NYC DOH Food Handler’s Certificate immediately, as well as a current ServSafe certification (within the first 30 days). Key Responsibilities:

  • Leads, manages, and encourages a team on campus, with the goal of providing top-notch service to the students, clients, and community.
  • Drives and develops self and team towards building strong relationships with the client(s) and achievement of key performance indicators (great experience, safety, employee engagement, etc.).
  • Supervise the hiring, training, and development of staff to uphold excellence in service and food quality.
  • Works in cooperation with the campus community to operate and enhance the campus dining and catering program.
  • Represent Manhattan School of Music and Chartwells’ vision and values in our dining locations and is the main point of contact for our clients.
  • Support awareness of the campus dining program and development of nutritional and dietary awareness, residential life interactions, etc.
  • Works closely with College departments to ensure students’ needs are being achieved.
  • Analyzes customer research and current market conditions and is proactive with actions.
  • Manages the productivity of the culinary, catering, and front of house teams.
  • Oversees execution of catering, receptions, VIP events, and student events.
  • Ensures customer satisfaction and good public relations through the safe and efficient uses of resources.
  • Directs staff to provide scheduled retail services in accordance with corporate policies and presentation standards.
  • Implements and maintains cash handling standards as outlined in the Corporate Policies and Procedures Manual to eliminate theft of services or Company funds.
  • Oversees P&L, budgeting, and forecasting, using company metrics and goals.
  • Champions development of the team; conducts performance evaluations, along with succession planning, has full understanding of all roles within the operation.
  • Works with the Chef to create nutritious and top-quality food for the campus community.
  • Implements new culinary programs in conjunction with the Chartwells marketing and culinary team.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree preferred but not required.
  • MUST HAVE current NYC DOH Food Handlers Certificate and current ServSafe certification (within 30 days).
  • Six or more years of operational food service management experience.
  • Knowledge of food and catering trends with a focus on quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, marketing, and presentation.
  • Strong leadership abilities with validated experience in supervising and developing staff.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize optimally.
  • Outstanding customer service skills with a dedication to maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Proficiency in preparing and analyzing financial reports.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Must be experienced with computers.
  • ServSafe Certified.
