The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) is developing electronics to support the Space Dynamics Deep Space Radio Laboratory. We are seeking highly skilled, motivated students to work alongside our world class Engineers developing, assembling, and testing the hardware for various Deep Space Radio Applications. You will be an integral part of the development team and support project reviews, deliveries, and integration.
You will be developing hardware and testing radios for Deep Space operations that be communicating from Mars, the moon and many other out of this world locations. Additionally, you will be running tests, developing procedures and learning how to solve difficult and interesting problems. The work will include hands-on space hardware experience.

The work environment will be dynamic, working on world class hardware with co-workers and mentors who have extensive experience with radios and space electronics. The expectation is that you will be learning throughout your time in the lab leaving a strong desire and ability to start your engineering career strong. It should be enjoyable along the way.

Candidates should have familiarity and interest in the following areas:

  • Reading and understanding of electronic schematics
  • Hardware and software test and troubleshooting procedures
  • Basic understanding of RF signals
  • Interest in a wide variety of electronic hardware circuitry including RF, power supplies, telemetry, instrumentation, digital circuity and many others
  • Some software programming in Python
Required Qualifications:
  • Must be a Utah State University student majoring in electrical engineering
  • Must be a junior, senior or graduate student
  • Must be able to work effectively, both independently and as a team member
  • Must have strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Must be a US citizen, lawful permanent resident of the US, or other US person
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong interest in Radios
  • Varied interest in all things technical
  • Strong Curiosity and desire to always be learning
