GENERAL ASSIGNMENT PRINT REPORTER: The Naples Press
The Naples Press seeks an energetic and ambitious general assignment reporter. The ideal candidate should be a newshound who understands the importance of local community news and has the ability to write on deadline while providing clean copy that’s accurate, thorough, concise and thought provoking.
The best candidate will have a demonstrable record of generating multiple stories per week. They also will possess a journalism portfolio specializing in government reporting and education; the ability to pitch and develop longer enterprise stories of interest to Naples and its surrounding areas; an eagerness to cultivate and maintain a network of sources and relationships with key players in our community.
Qualifications:
-At least two years of experience working in daily or weekly newsroom environment
-Strong copy-editing skills and the ability to produce content that is fair, accurate and thorough
-Strong working knowledge of AP Style
-Talent for identifying fresh angles on news of the day, consistently pitching fresh, creative approaches that make the daily story relevant for a weekly publication
-A demonstrated ability to dig deeper into important stories with a thirst for digging through documents and building sources
-Willingness to tackle any assignment from features to enterprise to government to business
-Understands both the limitations of immediacy and advantages of long-range issues for weekly publications
-Ability to ferret out a good story, whether it takes dense, investigative work or a great sense of humor for lighter subjects
-Ability to meet tight deadlines and juggle daily, short-term enterprise and long-term enterprise stories
-Ability to work independently and with other members of the team and isn’t afraid to ask fellow writers for their expertise
