Your New Role:
We are growing our Studio Operations Team here at WBD at Techwood Studios in Atlanta. Studio Operations is changing throughout the industry. Therefore, we are expanding our world-class facilities in support of our top tier, innovative productions happening here daily. Not only that, our portfolio of work continues to evolve; which is why now would be a great time for additional great talent to be a part of our amazing team.
The Technical Director will function as one of the technical leads for a production during live game and/or studio broadcast productions. The Technical Director is responsible for the setup and operation of the production switcher and associated technical equipment in the Production Control Room and/or live location environment. They are also responsible for evaluating and assigning all video inputs while orchestrating the control room setup. The Technical Director will operate as the “right hand” of the Show Director to develop and execute the creative and technical “look” of the production by creating special effects via the production switcher and various external effects equipment.
Your Role Accountabilities:
LIVE/TAPED PRODUCTIONS
- Set up and operate production switchers and all associated technical equipment in a Production Control Room and/or Live Location environment during live game and/or studio broadcast productions.
- Collaborate with the Director and Producer to execute the technical and artistic vision for each live game and/or studio production.
- Lead the technical portion of the production team during the production setup and coordinate the faxing of their equipment and show elements.
- Collaborate with A1, V1, and other production entities to verify all video and audio signals are routed correctly.
- During productions, recall video sources, transitions, and effects while monitoring all sources to ensure proper video levels and timing.
- Handle the pressures of live programming and limited time constraints.
COLLABORATION & COMMUNICATION
- Work closely with the Technical Operations and Production Engineering to identify, troubleshoot, and solve technical problems for Live Location, PCRs, and Studio productions.
- Collaborate with Production Engineering, Technical Operations, and Production Management to identify and order any equipment needed for productions.
- Maintain effective communication across teams.
PLANNING RESPONSIBILITIES
- Creates documentation on switcher builds, effects builds, and setup of the switcher for each broadcast production.
Qualifications & Experiences:
- Minimum of 3 years of network level broadcast experience operating as a Technical Director for live game, live remote, and/or live studio productions.
- Knowledge of current industry standards.
- Knowledge of video signal flow and video router operations.
- Knowledge of IP router operations and the software used to edit panels.
- Must be able to technically operate various models of video switchers, digital effects devices, and other associated equipment.
- Must take ownership and accountability for assigned projects.
- Able to work flexible, non-traditional hours including weekends and holidays.
Not Required but Preferred Experience:
- Diverse background in broadcast television preferred, including camera and/or video playback.
- Knowledge of Grass Valley switchers.
- Knowledge of Evertz monitoring systems.
- Knowledgeable of new technologies available or on the horizon.
