Job Summary: 

The Technical Designer works within the Technical Department and assists the Technical Integration Manager under the VP of Technical Design. They help prepare and create the technical components involved in Conceptual, Schematic, Design Development and Construction Document production packages, including but not limited to Audio/Visual, Lighting, SAE, SFX, Ride Hardware and Interactives. They will also work closely with internal creative teams in order to translate the technical design intent to various external vendors and clients. The Technical Designer will develop attractions and interactives with constructability and feasibility in mind. They will develop these systems with knowledge of how they integrate within the facility and other technical disciplines. They will typically utilize AutoCAD but should possess the ability and desire to learn new design software and tools. 

The Technical Designer must possess analytical, design capabilities and good communications skills. They should have a passion for the amusement industry and all relevant areas of interest. They should be comfortable and confident working in a fast-paced environment where flexibility and rapid adaptability are key. 

Essential Functions: 

  • Provide direct support under the Technical Integration Manager and in collaboration with the Technical Design Team to create technical drafting and packages for use as compliance and installation documents for design projects. 
  • Ideate and provide solution-oriented input on potential methodologies, effects, and integration techniques and systems to achieve the creative vision. 
  • Work with various disciplines to integrate A/V, lighting, electrical, and special effects elements into design packages. 
  • Work with Creative and Narrative Teams to develop Attractions and Interactives utilizing knowledge of ride systems and technical hardware. 
  • Responsible for conceiving, iterating on, and defining the technical show/ride, interactive experience(s), and development of design documentation. 
  • Produce accurate technical drawings, details, install packages, as-builts, rough construction details, etc. for internal, and outsourcing to contractors/vendors
  • Review and redline technical drawings for client approval. 
  • Coordinate design documentation from contractors/vendors with an emphasis on checking for compliance with contractual requirements and specifications. 
  • Coordinate close-out packages, maintenance manuals, as-builts, and revisions. 

Job Qualifications and Requirements: 

  • Must have or be able to quickly acquire knowledge of company structure (mission, goals, and objectives), and policies and procedures. 
  • Must have a bachelor’s degree or comparable experience, with at least 3 years of experience working as a Technical Designer.  
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license. 
  • It is important to possess practical knowledge in business management as well as expertise in AutoCAD drawings, technical design documentation, integration or installation, and engineering specifications and procedures.  
  • Must also have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, adaptability, team oriented, an aptitude for reading and writing technical documents, proficiency in computer hardware and programs related to engineering, design, documentation, and presentation.  
  • Candidate must also be analytical, organized, and detail oriented.
