Amida is currently looking for a Technical Writer to join our team in Washington, DC, hybrid, or remote. In this role you will produce high-quality documentation that contributes to the overall success of our company. This individual will develop a thorough understanding of our customer-facing projects and compose clear and coherent project documentation (status reports, detailed analysis, training manuals, etc.) for our customers and our business development initiatives. The Technical Writer will collaborate with developers, analysts, business development, service delivery, subject matter experts, and other stakeholders to document project details and technical methodologies and produce other relevant collateral.
Key Responsibilities:
First 3 Months:
- Assist in writing and editing technical documents, including business proposals, reports, user manuals, briefings and presentations, functional descriptions, system specifications, guidelines, special reports, and other project deliverables to meet contractual requirements and internal documentation needs.
- Develop outlines and drafts for review and approval by technical specialists, project management, and clients, ensuring that final documents meet applicable contract requirements and regulations
- Research and gather technical and background information for inclusion in all project documentation and deliverables
- Consult relevant information sources, including library resources, technical and financial documents, and client and project personnel, to obtain background information and verify pertinent guidelines and regulations governing project deliverables
- Maintain and update the in-house style guide, ensuring adherence through regular review cycles. Additionally, demonstrate the ability to swiftly and effectively adapt to client-specific style guides and templates to meet contractual requirements
First 6 Months
- Collaborate with project, service delivery, product design, marketing, business development, and user experience teams
- Organize, index, and upload content to a content management system
- Begin to take ownership of specific documentation projects, ensuring timely and accurate completion
- Work closely with subject matter experts, engineers, developers, and the product marketing team to gather, develop, and articulate detailed project information
- Contribute to the development of new documentation standards and templates
First 12 Months
- Lead the documentation efforts for major projects, ensuring all deliverables are met on time and to the highest quality standards
- Continuously improve and update existing documentation based on feedback and new developments
- Actively participate in the continued development of technical writing best practices and company standards
- Develop and implement new strategies to strengthen current documentation processes and efficiencies
- Actively participate in Agile/Scrum meetings and contribute to the continuous improvement of team processes
Required Education:
- Bachelor's degree in English, journalism, communications, or technology
Required Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in technical writing for complex federal and state IT projects
Required Skills:
- Advanced skillset with Microsoft products, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Visio, along with template development and maintenance
- Experience writing technical IT deliverables and proposals for Federal Agencies (specifically the Department of Defense, Department of Veterans Affairs, NASA, and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid) or State and Local Governments, with a focus on Medicaid and Healthcare
- Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable in text and illustrations
- Design skills (MS PowerPoint/Visio) for creating diagrams, flow charts, and other visual aids/graphics (Adobe Creative Suite) to enhance final work products
- Experience documenting IT Development processes, including but not limited to API documentation, Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), Deliverable Expectation Documents (DED), Joint Application Development (JAD), Release Documentation, and associated deliverables
- Excellent written skills in English, strong interpersonal communication skills
- Must possess the ability to work well in a diverse environment
- Excellent planning, organizational, and time management skills
- Proven ability to work closely with subject matter experts, engineers, developers, and product marketing teams
- Ability to multitask across multiple workstreams, independently, as a positive contributor and member of each team
- Experience with content management systems (CMS) and version control systems (e.g., SharePoint)
- Past use of Agile/Scrum methodology or use of collaboration tools (preferred)
Preferred Skills:
- Master's degree or Society of Technical Writers certification
- Project Management Certification - PMI-PMP
Applicant Requirement:
- Must submit two written samples of original work that others have not subsequently edited
