Job Title: Technical Writer I
Clearance Required: Public Trust, US citizenship required
Work Location: Remote; up to 25% US travel

Alpha Omega is seeking a qualified IT Technical Writer to join our team.The selected candidate will support IT Service Management leaders, Help Desk, System Administrators, and Application Developers supporting a government agency. The agency conducts multidisciplinary science research to inform natural resource management.

Key Responsibilities:

Candidate will work on multiple efforts, including assisting with an IT Service Management transformation project, Help Desk, Network, System Administrators, and Programmer Analysts in documenting requirements, technical documentation, end user documentation, and training needs.

On the ITSM project, candidate will be responsible for:

  • Facilitating stakeholder meetings to define IT Policies & Services, and capture workflows, requirements, and metrics
  • Developing templates for Policies, SOPs, Work Instructions, End User Training materials, etc.
  • Developing a Process Asset Library to index and store documentation
  • Reviewing, editing, standardizing, and applying templates to existing documentation
  • Identifying needed documentation, and working with management to assign, schedule, track, review, and intake new documentation for review and addition to Process Asset Library
  • Working with SMEs to develop documentation and training materials
  • Support training activities such as communications, coordination, planning, documentation development


When supporting Programmer Analysts, candidate will be responsible for:

  • Facilitating stakeholder meetings to capture requirements (user stories) and demonstrate software updates
  • Entering requirements into tracking system (Jira)
  • Working with Programmer Analysts to produce technical documentation and user guides for custom applications
  • Support training activities such as communications, coordination, planning, documentation development


When supporting other areas of IT, candidate will be responsible for:

  • Facilitating stakeholder meetings to capture requirements and processes
  • Produce technical documentation, SOPs, and user guides
  • Support training activities such as communications, coordination, planning, documentation development
  • Other duties as assigned


Required Qualifications:

  • Education:

    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in English, Communications, IT, or similar

  • Experience/Skills:

    • Minimum 2 years' experience working as an IT Technical Writer or related role
    • Minimum 1 years working in an IT or science environment
    • Ability to analyze and synthesize complex science processes into user friendly documentation and/or business requirements working with the ITSM Manager
    • Strong technical aptitude-ability to quickly learn new concepts and tools
    • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
    • Ability to write clearly and succinctly for multiple audiences using either formal or more casual tones
    • Ability to work quickly, efficiently, and multi-task
    • Experience creating infographics to more clearly communicate workflow processes and abstract topics
    • Experience with organizing documentation into a Process Asset Library or Knowledge Management System


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience preferred with ITIL v3 or v4 and/or PMBOK
  • Experience preferred working with Agile/Scrum software development teams


Preferred Certification(s):

  • ITIL v3 or v4
  • IT certifications


Salary and Benefit Information:

The likely salary range for this position is $55,000 - $58,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position and could fall outside of this range.
