Senior Human Factors Engineer/ UX Researcher

Location: San Diego

Hire Type: 12 month contract with potential to convert to Sony Employee

Pay Rate: $50-65/hour (Depending on experience)

This role is a contract role through Sony Managed Service Provider DZX.

The User Experience design (UX) Group of Sony in San Diego has openings for a Senior Human Factors Engineer/UX Researcher position. We are looking for experienced researchers with a passion for user experience and consumer products who can plan, manage, and conduct UI/UX research, analyze data, and create reports to improve every UX aspect of Sony products. The UX Group is part of a multi-disciplinary team that designs and researches UI/UX for many of Sony products.

The ideal candidate will have an extensive research background with user-centered design of consumer products and usability evaluations at various stages of product development. He or she will work on prototypes which require troubleshooting of the software or creating prototypes using Figma or other software. He or she will have experience effectively negotiating interactions with various stakeholders such as designers, engineers, and business development.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan and manage research with stakeholders which includes surveys, ethnographic field studies, task-based usability test sessions, contextual inquiries, and expert reviews.
  • Project management.
  • Recruit participants and scheduling.
  • Create discussion guides, moderate sessions, analyze the data, and create reports. Design surveys, analyze and create reports.
  • Design/develop prototypes or troubleshoot prototypes. Manage stakeholders’ requests.

Desired Skills:

  • Ability to focus on the customer’s needs.
  • Knowledge of basic user-centered design principles.
  • Knowledge of UI industry standards for interface design and user testing methodologies.
  • Experience with statistical analysis of user research and survey creation.
  • Hands-on knowledge and experience in designing and developing prototypes.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently on complex projects.
  • Ability to deliver high quality work on tight schedules.
  • Careful attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate and work as a team.
  • Understanding of multi-cultures.
  • Work with stakeholders from different cultural backgrounds and native languages and manage their expectations.
  • Mentor junior members.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction with demonstrated experience in an equivalent field (minimum of 3 years).
  • Advanced knowledge and hands-on experience with PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
  • Proficiency in Qualtrics.
  • Basic knowledge in Figma or other types of development tools or programming.
