Job Summary

The department of Information Technology is seeking six energetic students to participate as peer tutors/student researchers in a project funded by an NSF-HSI grant for ITEC-2140. Funded research aims to boost learning and motivation in introductory programming through a comprehensive strategy that includes automated grading, web-based team support, and game development.

The students will work closely with supervising faculty members to develop the animation/games, develop course modules, record lectures based on these course modules, teach the modules in GGC courses, and assist with the collection and analysis of data.

Responsibilities

* With faculty guidance, design and develop modules for visual programs, including animations and games, to illustrate key programming concepts (e.g. Boolean & if, loops, methods, arrays, and classes & objects).

* Based on the modules developed, record lecture videos that first teach the programming concepts contained in the module and then guide viewers in developing the same animations/games.

* Teach the same lessons either in person or synchronously in ITEC-2140 classes.

* Work with faculty to collect and analyze data on the games' effectiveness in teaching programming concepts.

Required Qualifications

* Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours at Georgia Gwinnett College.

* Must be in good academic standing and maintain good academic standing for the duration of employment.

* Must be in good conduct standing with the Office of Student Integrity and maintain good conduct for the duration of employment.

* Professional demeanor with excellent teamwork skills.

* Ability to be highly organized, attentive to details, time management, and multi-tasking skills.

* Be familiar with Java Programming

Preferred Qualifications

* Ability to work with minimal supervision

* Strong interest in helping peer students learn basic programming concepts and develop programming skills

* Have some computer game development experience
