What We're Looking For This candidate will be working within HNTB’s Creative Engagement Solutions Team. Our team focuses on cultivating delivery through collaboration, creativity, and innovations to meet people where they are, garner insight and support, and build meaningful connections and trust. As part of the Digital Transformation Solutions group, our team supports the development and delivery of some of the most innovative and immersive web applications in the transportation industry. We are a diverse group of digital innovators comprised of geospatial and web application developers, planners, engineers, UI/UX and graphic designers, communications professionals, and equity and public engagement experts. The ideal candidate for this opportunity will help ensure our digital applications, sites, and platforms meet accessibility requirements and/or policies, as well as be a subject matter expert for other developers. This candidate will work alongside team members to design, develop, configure, test, implement, and maintain accessible web applications/systems. This candidate should have a strong understanding of the Website Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and other accessibility standards as they relate to website and digital solutions. The right candidate will be able to work on and prioritize multiple projects at one time, as well as have skills in developing, testing, and implementing solutions that meet accessibility requirements within multiple technical environments. This candidate should be able to demonstrate experience in: Assisting team members in identifying and organizing project needs and expectations. Utilizing a comprehensive knowledge of development languages and systems to work on complex projects involving software, database and system architecture design. Developing modern web applications using advanced programming tools and languages, based on the project requirements document. Thoroughly tests and documents all work produced. Providing user support and utilizing strong troubleshooting skills to solve complex technical problems with legacy applications or systems. Developing user interfaces for web applications based on an understanding of data use and client needs. Working on projects which require skills in multiple technical environments. Learning new skills, tools, and platforms and to think outside of the box to deliver unique digital solutions. Listening to the needs and requests of the team, clients, and project groups to enhance or build new applications to address those needs. Implementing ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) roles and properties to enhance accessibility. Conducting accessibility audits and usability testing with assistive technologies, such as screen readers. Collaborating with UI/UX designers to create accessible and user-friendly interfaces. Developing and maintaining accessible HTML, CSS, and JavaScript code. Optimizing web content for keyboard navigation and screen reader compatibility. Staying updated with the latest accessibility best practices and guidelines. Advocating for accessibility within the development team and the broader organization. Addressing accessibility issues identified through automated and manual testing. Ensuring responsive design principles are applied to create accessible experiences across devices. What You'll Do: Designs and develops software applications. Performs coding, debugging, testing, and troubleshooting throughout the application development process. Works closely with other engineers and stakeholders to ensure that the software meets business requirements. Participates in code reviews and provide feedback to other developers. Writes technical documentation for software applications. Performs other duties as assigned. What You'll Need: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field and 3 years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree in computer science or related field and 2 years of relevant experience, or In lieu of education, 7 years of relevant experience. What We Prefer: Experience developing solutions related to digital accessibility is a must. In-depth understanding and implementation of digital accessibility standards, such as WCAG, familiarity with ARIA (Accessible Rich Internet Applications), and proficiency in HTML, including HTML5 elements. Experience using accessibility testing tools, including screen readers. Knowledge of creating accessible forms, navigation, and multimedia content. Proven experience identifying and resolving accessibility issues, including providing technical guidance for remediation efforts to ensure conformance with WCAG and Section 508 standards. Certifications related to accessibility, such as WAS, CPWA, CPACC, NVDA, or JAWS, is a plus. Experience developing solutions using C# and .NET Core. Experience using Angular and Vue.js. Experience creating responsive designs targeting a wide range of devices and formats. Experience with JavaScript TypeScript, CSS, and design frameworks such Material Design or Bootstrap. Understanding of cross-browser/platform issues and web security. Knowledge of best practices in web design and development. Experience deploying cloud-based web applications with AWS and/or Azure. Experience with agile development and systems engineering life cycles. Excellent problem-solving skills. Consultant, contracting or similar collaborative work environment experience is a must.
