Minimum qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent practical experience.
  2. 4 years of experience creating content for technical audiences (e.g., developer documentation, Computer Science course material, or IT administration playbooks).
  3. Experience writing for the web with Markdown, HTML, CSS, or JavaScript.

Preferred qualifications:

  1. Experience assisting non-writers with developmental and copy editing.
  2. Experience in researching and writing effective documentation for developers and developer operations (Dev-ops).
  3. Familiarity with Application Programming Interface (API) management, Cloud, Cloud/Hybrid, Multi-Cloud, or Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) technologies and practices.
  4. Ability to design information architecture for moderate to large content sets.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Take information and communicate it clearly, concisely, and accurately.
  2. Build partnerships with all of Cloud partners and stakeholders.
  3. Lead the user experience, information architecture, navigation, and effort to reduce fragmentation and discoverability issues.
  4. Communicate with Cloud customers through conceptual documentation, detailed guides, code samples, and other online materials.
  5. Work with engineering and product management teams to document new features.

Technical writers communicate information clearly, concisely and accurately, and without relying on jargon. As a technical writer, your role involves tasks such as writing conceptual overviews and procedures, reading and writing example code, or updating help center queries and FAQs. Technical writers play a big part at Google, acting as a key link between developers, marketing associates, developer advocates, as well as all the external users and developers, tying together many vital but disparate parts of the Google ecosystem.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $102,000-$150,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
