Description:

The Lead Faculty is seen as primarily serving in a faculty and teaching role. The person in this role will serve as a master teacher who works to help other teachers to excel. The Lead Faculty will teach Writing 110, coordinate the instruction of Writing 1 and the Writing 1 Lab, and assist with the duty of assessment.

Specialization:
  • Ph.D. in Composition/Rhetoric.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach three sections of Writing 1, 2, and/or 3 every semester.
  • Coordinate with the Office of the Provost and the Department of English in recruiting and hiring Writing 1 instructors.
  • Conduct the initial training of new instructors.
  • Conduct ongoing development for instructors teaching Writing 1.
  • Train and oversee writing coaches leading Writing 1 Labs.
  • Assist in the design of workshops for faculty teaching Writing 1.
  • Co-lead summer workshops.
  • Conduct classroom observations and writing observation reports.
  • Assist with writing assessment.
  • As funding increases for the university, the Lead Faculty could shift to WPA duties and increasingly help with curriculum development and the design of new courses for a Writing major.
  • May be needed to work at alternative Regional Campuses or Sites.

Level: Open rank, dependent upon prior University rank/status.

Qualifications:
  • A demonstrated, vibrant Christian faith compatible with the mission of Azusa Pacific University (Faculty members are required to sign a "Statement of Faith," available at http://www.apu.edu/about/believe, and to adhere to the policies outlined in the Faculty Handbook).
  • Knowledge of effective writing theories and practices and the ability to share about them.

Experience:
  • At least five years' experience teaching first-year writing courses preferred.
  • At least two years' experience working adjacent program or department administrative roles.

Workload:
  • Full-time faculty position teaching 18 units per academic year and 6 units of administrative duties per academic year; other responsibilities determined by the Office of the Provost.

Compensation:

$66,560 to $125,460 is the annual salary for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to compensation, APU offers a competitive benefits package.

Compensation will be based on experience, rank, and qualifications.
