The Department of Writing Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Miami invites applications for up to two faculty positions as Assistant Professor of Practice, to begin January 1, 2025, or August 15, 2025, depending upon position availability and teaching needs. We seek colleagues whose research focuses on pedagogy, program assessment, and teaching and learning in rhetoric, writing, and/or design (broadly defined). We especially encourage applications from candidates who would like to work collaboratively in a collegial atmosphere.

The Department of Writing Studies is the twenty-first department in the College of Arts and Sciences and was approved by the University of Miami Board of Trustees in January 2022. In addition to housing the first-year writing program, the department offers courses in professional writing, leadership and innovation, science writing, legal writing, and civic and community engagement. The department recently launched a Minor in Professional Writing and oversees the University's Writing Center.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in Writing and Rhetoric, Technical and Professional Communication, Composition, or closely related field, in hand by the start date of the appointment

A research agenda that focuses on teaching and learning in the context of writing studies

Evidence of equitable and inclusive teaching excellence at the college level, especially with diverse student populations

A developing scholarly record, including peer reviewed presentations and publications
