Duties and Responsibilities

The internship is UNPAID and may be either full-time or part-time. It should be noted that full-time internship working hours are 35 hours per week, while part-time internship working hours are 20 hours per week. The internship will be undertaken either remotely outside the duty station or in a hybrid working arrangement at UN Premises, New York, United States. Interns work under the supervision of DPO/SCS Digital Communications Manager.This position is located in the Strategic Communications Section of the Office of the Director for Coordination and Shared Services (ODCSS) serving the Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) and Peace Operations (DPO). The incumbent will report to the Digital Communications Manager, Strategic Communications Section. The Office of the Director for Coordination and Shared Services enables, directs and coordinates departmental efforts to ensure the effective integration and management of both Departments.The Department of Peace Operations (DPO) provides political and executive direction to UN peacekeeping operations around the world and maintains contact with the Security Council, troop and financial contributors, and parties to the conflict in the implementation of Security Council mandates. The Department works to integrate the efforts of UN, governmental and nongovernmental entities in the context of peacekeeping operations. DPO also provides guidance and support on military, police, mine action and other relevant issues to other UN political and peacebuilding missions.The Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) focuses primarily on five action areas in international peace and security, ensuring sound analysis and early warning, preventing conflict and engaging in peacemaking, managing political crises and violent conflicts, sustaining peace, and enhancing partnerships. The Department's mandate is to prevent and resolve conflict through inclusive political solutions.Responsibilities:- Video Production Support: Assist in the production and planning of short-form, mid-form and feature videos tailored for social media and web platforms. Tasks include topic and footage research, outreach to missions, scriptwriting, editing and filming. Content will highlight peacekeeping missions, activities, and impact in alignment with the department's communication priorities and key messages.- Graphic Design & Visual Content Creation: Create visually engaging graphics, infographics, and other design elements to support social media posts, web content, and digital campaigns.- Multimedia Content Development: Help produce a variety of multimedia assets, including animations, GIFs, and motion graphics, to effectively communicate complex messages in a clear and visually appealing way.- Video publication and distribution: Assist in publishing content and formulating distribution strategies for all social media platforms. Conduct outreach and build relationships with partners to amplify content. Help gather and analyze video metrics to aid in planning content flow for videos.- Content Editing & Quality Control: Edit and polish video footage, graphics, and multimedia assets to ensure they meet UN Peacekeeping's brand and quality standards.- Library Management: Organize and maintain a library of digital assets, including video footage, images, and graphics, to ensure easy access and use for future content production.- Collaboration & Coordination: Work closely with team members and various units within the Department of Peace Operations to gather content and ensure messaging consistency across all multimedia outputs.- Content Formatting & Optimization: Tailor multimedia assets for various platforms (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube), ensuring they are optimized for engagement and reach on each channel.- Campaign & Event Support: Assist in the production and execution of multimedia content for campaigns, events, and special projects to enhance their reach and impact.- Reporting & Documentation: Document and archive completed projects, including lessons learned, for reference in future content planning and strategy development.- Additional Tasks: Perform other duties as requested by the supervisor, contributing to the overall goals of the Digital Team.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:(a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master's or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor's, Master's or PH.D. Proficient in video editing software, such aswith preference for Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro, with the ability to edit and produce high-quality video content for social media and web platforms. Familiarity with Adobe After Effects and other animation tools for creating motion graphics and visual effects is a plus. Knowledge of video production processes, including scripting, storyboarding, and basic camera operation, is beneficial. Experience with video compression, formatting, and optimizing content for various social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, and YouTube) is preferred. Graphic Design: Knowledgeable in using Canva and able to develop and create communication material using the platform. Knowledge on Adobe (e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, After Effects) and other graphic design software is a plus. Creativity: Able to generate novel and useful ideas and solutions to problems and challenges Independence: Able to work independently, taking initiatives and showing self-development, initiative-taking and sound judgment

Languages

Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required; knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
