OPPORTUNITY
The Instructional Aide Visual and Performing Arts will provide instructional support for students grades 9-12 in visual and/or performing arts courses at our - nimo South Los Angeles Charter High School. The incumbent will be assigned to work with individual or small groups of students to support access to arts content. In this role, you will receive the opportunity to build relationships with students and work under the guidance of a credentialed visual and/or performing arts teacher. Green Dot California classified personnel have union representation as members of the nimo Classified Employees Association (ACEA), an affiliate of the California Teachers Association (CTA) and the National Education Association (NEA). Please note, while there is no end date for this position, it is grant-funded and may be discontinued as a result of a reduction in programmatic funding.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

> Coordinate instructional efforts with the teacher to assist with daily learning activities in drama, advanced drama, visual arts, and/or AP Art courses (e.g. leading actors in small group rehearsals, assisting students with playwriting, supporting students with art portfolio preparation, assisting in curating student art shows, etc.)
> Under immediate supervision, follow the lead of the teacher in providing small group or 1:1 instruction in arts content to students with and without disabilities
> Engage in coaching sessions with the Green Dot Visual and Performing Arts Coordinator and/or the credentialed teacher to develop instructional skills
> With the teacher's guidance, prepare various teaching aids and materials such as visuals, copies, art/drama supplies, etc.
> With the teacher's guidance, adapt educational materials/manipulatives to promote differentiated learning for students with disabilities, emergent bilinguals and other student groups identified by the teacher
> Use a variety of technology platforms and applications to support student learning
> Assist in organizing classroom materials, equipment, and displays such as preparing bulletin boards, posting student work, arranging furniture to facilitate instructional needs, and creating an orderly and clean classroom environment
> Observe and report behavior of students in and out of the classroom and support the implementation of the school's behavior policy
> Assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and procedures
> Administer first aid or necessary physical assistance to ill or distressed students: may administer prescribed medication in accordance with established school procedure
> Participate in meetings, in-service training programs and field trips as assigned
> Maintain regular attendance

QUALIFICATIONS:
Consistent with the No Child Left Behind Act of 2002 and other related legislation, candidates for this classification must meet the following standards:

As an ideal candidate, you:
> possess a high school diploma (or equivalent) AND one of the following:
*completion of at least two years of college (48 units), OR
*attainment of an AA (or higher) degree OR
*pass a local assessment of knowledge and skills in assisting in instruction (e.g., CBEST)
> can demonstrate adaptability to changing circumstances and priorities within the learning environment
> can demonstrate a willingness to work collaboratively as an educational team member
> can demonstrate skills in visual and/or performing arts and are confident supporting high school students in arts content
> have at least six months experience working with adolescents/children in a structured learning environment (preferred)
*verifiable supervised experience as a volunteer in a school or related organizational activity may be substituted on an equal basis
> are dependable, have a sense of humor and a rock-solid commitment to Green Dot's mission and the communities we serve
> will need to pass a TB test and background check at time of offer

Any other combination of training and experience that could likely provide the desired skills, knowledge or abilities may be considered; however, experience cannot substitute for the required minimum education and a willingness to work collaboratively as an educational team member
