Job Description: Arcadia University in Glenside, PA. and Jiangsu University in Zhenjiang City in China have an articulation agreement in which students in The School of Mathematical Sciences at Jiangsu University can transfer to Arcadia University to complete their bachelor's degrees. Arcadia University will provide intensive English language instruction to approximately 60 second-year students, divided into three sections, in the joint program. The English courses are to help students improve their academic writing and oral communication skills in order to qualify for enrollment at Arcadia University at the beginning of their third or fourth year. The ESL classes are taught in-person for three months at Jiangsu University and then online for one month in the U.S. Due to the time difference between the United States and China, this hybrid course requires the instructor to teach in the morning four times a week and in the evening two times a week.

The number of part-time instructors hired by the department varies from semester to semester, depending upon the needs of the program. Essential Functions:
- Providing in-person instruction on academic writing and oral communication to second-year students at Jiangsu University for approximately 3 months: 10 hours per week
- Providing online instruction for approximately 1 month in the U.S.
- Providing office hours for approximately 1.5 hours per week, if necessary
- Collaborating with professors of English at Jiangsu University to support students' English language development
- Submitting final grades within 3 days of end-of-semester date
- Coordinating with Lingxuan Kong, professor of English at Jiangsu University, and Tran Chau, program manager at Arcadia University, to ensure quality instruction
Marginal Functions:
- Providing opportunities for students to practice speaking English, such as organizing speech
contests or debates - Writing letters of recommendation for Jiangsu students planning to transfer to Arcadia University
- Helping transfer students practice interviewing skills
Qualifications:
- Ability to teach in-person for 3 months at Jiangsu University and online for 1 month in the U.S. each semester; Chinese language fluency is NOT required
- Minimum of three years of experience teaching English as a Second/Foreign Language
- Work or travel abroad experience, ideally in China or Asia
- Familiarity with English proficiency tests, such as the IELTS, TOEFL, or Duolingo
- Native or near-native speaker of English
- Experience with course design on Canvas and online instruction via Zoom
- Stable internet connection in the U.S.
- Computer/laptop with webcam and microphone
Minimum Qualifications:
- M.A. in TESOL, English, or related field
- B.A. in TESOL, English, or related field with a minimum of 6 years of teaching experience at the collegiate level in China
Compensation:
- Travel allowance: Economy-class round-trip airfare
- Housing: single-bedroom apartment on Jiangsu University campus
- Stipend: $1000 per month while teaching in person at Jiangsu University
- The instructor will be teaching 3 sections of a 4-credit course and paid $4700/section, or $14,100 total for 3 sections
