Position Overview
Join us in the summer of 2025 and help us continue the legacy of fostering creativity, nurturing talent, and celebrating the individual artistic journey at Interlochen. We are seeking creative and adaptable Arts Explorers Visual Art Instructors who embody our core values and are committed to nurturing young artists. As an Arts Explorers Visual Art Instructor, you will lead students through the creative process and skill building lessons to further develop their visual art skills, while fully immersing yourself in the unique environment that only a summer camp can offer. The Instructor will choose age-appropriate material to develop students' individual skills and expressiveness in a positive classroom environment.
What You Get To Do
- Collaborate with fellow instructors to provide meaningful learning opportunities
- Identify age-appropriate material that will benefit each member of the program
- Develop and implement curriculum
- Oversee growth and progress of all students within the class
- Attend weekly departmental meetings
- Create appropriate curriculum for the skill level of the campers
- Responsible with organizing day-to-day interactions with their respective campers in the Arts Explorers division
- Attend each class day as scheduled by Division Director

What You Need
- Availability 06/21/25 - 08/04/25
- Prepared to live in a dorm or nature cabin setting. While we offer accessible housing accommodations, please note that due to the rustic nature of our camp, these options are limited.
- Candidates must have or be working on their MFA, MA or have equal related experience
- Preference will be for candidates who have experience teaching younger students (ages 8-13) the fundamentals of printmaking and drawing, as well as more advanced and experimental approaches

What to Expect about Camp Life
- Rustic Living: You'll be living in a dorm or nature cabin setting, surrounded by the beauty of northern Michigan. Wi-Fi and air conditioning are not provided in the nature cabins, encouraging a true disconnect from the digital world and a deeper connection with nature and those around you.
- Embrace the Outdoors: The camp is nestled in a wilderness area, so expect to encounter wildlife and insects as part of the experience. Embracing the natural environment is key to enjoying your time here.
- Outdoor Work Environment: Many of your duties will involve working outdoors, often for extended periods, so being comfortable in various weather conditions is important.
