Job Description
The Palo Alto Networks TechDocs team directly helps our customers improve their security posture to best protect against cyber threats. As a part of the R&D organization, we work hands-on with products and serve as the voice of our users during the development cycle.
This is a principal writer role, focused on our new cloud-delivered management platform, Strata Cloud Manager. In this role, you’ll:
- Partner with product management, engineering, UX, and QA teams as you write content that helps users understand the risks their organizations face, and how to secure their employees no matter where they are.
- Lead docs releases and drive docs feature requirements across multiple product teams and within TechDocs.
- Build relationships with our stakeholders in the field who work directly with customers, to ensure that our content enables our users to discover and adopt new features and to self-service.
- Develop in-product content and use-case based documentation, including UX content, context-sensitive help, and diverse content mediums like videos and walkthroughs.
About You
You’re curious, like to be hands-on with technology, and are eager to learn about cybersecurity. You’re user-focused and want to ensure that the end-to-end customer journey with the product is as simple and carefree as it can possibly be. You’re an avid researcher—you’re not hesitant to dive into something new and you know how to hunt down the information that you need. You know how to prioritize and deliver on immediate requirements while continuing to look ahead. You anticipate how we can meet user needs not only today but tomorrow as well. You’re a transparent communicator, ensuring that everyone is working with the same information; you work towards building consensus and set expectations effectively. You write content that is both easy-to-read and informative, using strong critical-thinking skills to provide just the right information for users to achieve their goals. You seek and are comfortable receiving different viewpoints and feedback, and you’re thoughtful in pushing back or adapting.
Qualifications
Experience
We’re looking for a seasoned, principal technical writer with a proven track record of writing content that simplifies the user experience. Experience with security technologies, threat prevention, or SaaS security is a bonus. It’s also great if you have experience with the tools that we use to get our work done, including:
- Source control tools (Git)
- Topic-based authoring tools (DITA or XML authoring, Oxygen)
- Team collaboration and release tracking tools (Confluence, Jira, and Asana)
We’d love to see writing samples, especially concepts written from scratch.
Education
