The Content Strategist, Medical Writer is responsible for optimizing Hackensack Meridian Health's consumer website content with increased focus on driving traffic and conversions within our Care Transformation Services (cancer, cardiovascular, pediatrics, behavioral health, orthopedics, neurosciences). The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable writing as well as performing interviews with physicians and other key stakeholders and performing research. The position requires a motivated, resourceful professional capable of independent function in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as a natural ability to adapt to new digital technologies are core to the position and non-negotiable.

This position will offer a hybrid schedule.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Content Strategist, Medical Writer at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:

  • Write compelling web content as needed for HackensackMeridianHealth.org, adhering to SEO best practices and the organization's web content template.
  • Interview physicians and key stakeholders regularly to ensure that the latest innovations and research developments are highlighted in a consumer-friendly way on the website.
  • Take extremely complex medical technologies, procedures research and distill them in plain language for the average consumer - making clinical topics relatable.
  • Maintain a schedule and process to ensure the web presence for Hackensack Meridian Health's Care Transformation Services (cancer, cardiovascular, pediatrics, behavioral health, orthopedics, neurosciences) is updated regularly with the latest and most accurate information available.
  • Work with creative services and the content team to visually enhance our web content through the use of video, infogra
  • phics and photography.
  • Support the content team with writing / content development projects as needed, including but not limited to HealthU blog & magazine content, social media copy and other internal or external communications.
  • Establish goals, metrics and deliverables to measure the effectiveness of web content updates.
  • Engage in meaningful interviews and dialogues with leadership, patients and physicians.
  • Work closely with marketing, digital and video team members.
  • Source and manage relationships with outside agencies/vendors as necessary.
  • Remain current with existing and emerging content marketing strategies and tactics, applying them as appropriate.
  • Provide consistent, reliable and high-quality internal customer service.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field such as Marketing, Advertising, Communications, Journalism or English.
  • Minimum of 3 years of proven medical writing/editing experience. Must provide samples of various forms and styles of copy.
  • Expertise and a passion for health and wellness communications.
  • Strong proofing and grammar.
  • Knowledge and comfort using digital tools such as Google Analytics.
  • Understanding of how people access and consume content on digital platforms.
  • Understanding of best practices for writing for SEO.
  • Interpersonal skills are important due to the nature of the position.
  • Attention to detail is a must.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to write strong headlines and compelling copy.
  • Comfortable with all Google Suite applications.
  • Understanding of digital/social platforms and how to prepare, post and position copy for appropriate audiences.
  • Undying curiosity about what we do, the healthcare industry, and the customers we engage with.
  • Comfortable in an exciting, high-growth environment with shifting priorities.
  • Positive and proactive attitude; ability to maintain a high level of professionalism in a corporate environment.
